We moved my mother into the courtyards in April of 2022 where she lived until Feb 2024. There are some great staff there, however the turnover rate of their staff is high. Others have mentioned the food which is subpar. We also had problems with mom’s clothes being lost and others clothes winding up in her closet. We complained about this throughout the course of her stay. We even tagged her clothes. The “level of care” cost was subjective at best. It would be increased without advance notice. When mom left in Feb 2024, we assumed we were paid up. We were contacted in Nov 2024 saying they were about to turn us over to a collection agency. What?! They auto-draft monthly. I inquired of the 112.91 that we said we owed. It was an increase in the “level of care” in Oct 2023. They never asked for it then and our cell numbers and email never changed Avoid this place!!! Management is terrible

The team was very welcoming when my mother returned from the hospital and is ready to jump in to continue healing.
My twin sister (who is a stroke victim) and I are delighted with her to move the Courtyards at Lake Granbury. After having visited several of the retirement homes in our area (and living in three of them), we have FINALLY found a clean, friendly, caring place for her to live. The facilities are first class with wonderful staff -- one at the front desk at all times -- who welcome everyone who visits. The food is very good and each resident's food restrictions are honored. The church services, cleanliness throughout the facility, and activities to keep the residents engaged are first class. We thank everyone there for their care.
In April and May 2024, I would have given 5 stars. If you are looking for an Assisted Living facility for your loved one, there are several important things the facility should have to ensure the health of your loved one. They must take their prescription on time, whether administering to themselves, or in my case, I pay for an extra level of care of $650 for the facility to administer her meds. Number two is food. Nutritious food three times per day is very important. Next is a friendly caring staff and residents (very important). Before I moved my mom here, I talked to the residents. They loved it there and were so friendly. Everyone talked to me including the staff. One of the questions I had was how the food was. The residents raved about the food and a real chef prepared it and it was wonderful. Great! Nice residents, great friendly staff, better price and most of all great food and plenty of room in the dining room for her wheelchair. Talked to my mom about it, and she was excited, and I moved her to Courtyards in April 2024. She made friends fast. Everyone there was so friendly to her and me. I don’t know how they found such a great staff, but they are wonderful. They have a PA that comes every Wed., a physical therapist, nurses that are wonderful and really care for the residents, and the remaining staff is also wonderful. Mom is very happy there. Now for the not so good. Since April, things have changed. I am not sure what happened, but the cooking staff just walked out one day. Not sure if they were fired or just walked out. From this time, the food at this facility has gone downhill. Now the cost to these residents is $3500/mo. (not counting the level of care) and up. This includes the cost of the room, cleaning the room, laundry services, three meals per day, mailbox and any assistance they may need occasionally. Now at this cost, I assumed meals would be very good. Similar to a typical inexpensive restaurant. Instead it is like bad hospital food or bad Nursing Home food. I expect bad food in a nursing home, because Medicaid typically pays for these facilities. But a facility where the residents pay out of their own pocket, I expect better. For example, I was visiting her the day before yesterday and they brought here a dry grilled cheese sandwich and potato chips. About $1 to $2 dollars worth of food. Other days, it was not much better when I ate with her in the dining room. This was not true when she first moved in. I ate there many times and the food was great. At the price these facilities charge, why can they not hire a real chef that knows how to cook for large numbers of people? And buy quality food. These residents are paying good money to live there. I don’t know the fix, but you need to consider this before choosing Courtyards. This is real problem when you pick a facility. They can change on you after you move your loved one in. Then you have to consider moving them again. Not exactly like renting an apartment. The trend I am seeing at Courtyards since moving my mother in April 2024 is concerning me. They lost a good cooking staff, replaced the director with a new one, hired a poor cooking staff and changing things (which I will not go into here), for what I can see, is not for the better is concerning me. I am hoping the changes do not impact their caring, friendly staff. I hope this review helps you in picking an Assisted Living facility for your loved one. But most importantly I hope Courtyards can read this as constructive criticism and return the quality of their facility to what it was when I first moved my mom in.
My Aunt and Uncle stay here. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The place is clean and my Aunt says the food is good.
