Nansemond Pointe has obviously had their challenges over the past several years and lost the reputation it once had; however, new management has taken over - and the current leadership seems to be making honest efforts to improve the Assisted Living Facility in both the quality of daily services, and living conditions. Hopefully the facilities ratings will begin to reflect those efforts in the near future.

Worst experience ever! When I originally placed my uncle here the admission person was so kind and helpful. When I addressed my concerns with her regarding all of the bad reviews she explained them away stating they were ex-employees and people who were never even in their facility. Boy I was wrong to trust her! Maybe she just doesn't realize the quality of care being provided since she is in admissions. It is absolutely horrible! It was my understanding they were to provide laundry service for their residents; however, my uncle went 3 weeks without it being done. I was taking it home figuring maybe I just misunderstood; however, that wasn't the case. I found out last week through an evening housekeeper that they were supposed to be tending to his laundry all this time. She was kind enough to offer to tend to his laundry needs immediately and I was so grateful to her! He has also gone without a phone now for the past 2 weeks and still waiting for a replacement phone in his room to no avail. This is extremely fraustrating especially since they rarely answer or return calls at the nurses station on the Holiday unit. I have also witnessed him pushing the call bell for assistance and no one bothered to come for over 30 minutes. He has had to sit in soiled clothes due to their lack of responding to his assistance needs. Beware prior to placing your loved ones here. These are just a few of my concerns that have taken place during his stay. Thankfully I decided to move him to what seems to be a much pleasant place to stay.
My husband has been here twice. In 2017 I would have given this place a 4. Today I give it a 1. It is like a horror movie. Patients are left unattended for hours. My husband layed in a nasty diaper for hours. Rooms aren't cleaned on a regular basis. The trash cans are running over. The nursing staff is short of help. Residents ring there call bell no one shows up for hours. I can't believe a place is allowed to operate like this. Oh and no one never returns your phone calls. Beware of placing your loved one here.
Please do not take your loved ones here if you are expecting them to be properly cared for. My father is currently a patient there. He has limited to no eye sight, a dialysis patient and can barely walk on his own. You would think ALL the nurses are aware of this all the time right???? Nope. While there are only a couple of good nurses (Erica being one) the rest seem to not really care. Yes my father can be difficult at times however that doesn't mean call bells should go unanswered or answer when they feel like it. They bring his tray of food and not even tell him what's on the tray let alone try to feed it to him. I've called and asked at least twice for someone to assist him with activities, no one has shown up yet. He has weekly dialysis scheduled and if transportation doesn't show up it just like oh well thats not our fault. No one calls to make other arrangements for dialysis. I have been trying for two days to call and talk to someone. When I finally got Hope she said she would call the Dr on call and get back with me. Well I am still waiting. Called this morning and was left on hold for seven minutes just to be told to call back in 25mins. Not to mention almost everytime I go , the person across the hall is always on the floor hollering for help, with nurses walking by as if they don't see or hear him. No I am not sure of the circumstances but it doesn't look right to walk past a patient on the floor. This place is understaffed so I won't place all the blame on the nurses. But they could be better when treating patients as they have nothing to do with poor management. Each patient deserves respect and care at the end of the day. No one seems to be on the same page. When he first was admitted about 5 mths ago this place had 4 stars. Definitely not the case now. I don't like to complain and am usually very patient and understanding but I had to write this review in hopes of someone caring enough to do something about this place.
The staff at Kindred Assisted Living (NANSEMOND Commons) do an outstanding job of caring for my mother in a professional yet caring manner. She has been living in the facility for about a year now, and before that she was recovering from health issues for several months in the adjoining rehab department. Now I know just about everyone in the facility on a first name basis and they make me feel like family when I walk through the door. There is very little if any turnover among the staff members and this exemplifies to me that they have good managers who treat both patients and staff members fairly/humanely. They do a great job of keeping me informed if there are any health issues that need to be addressed, and it is wonderful to see my mother participating in activities with the newly hired activities director.
