My Dad was a resident of Concord for about 4.5 years. He was very, very happy there. Dad was one of the last of his generation of family and friends so had a limited social life.Concord gave him a community to which to belong where he had all kinds of friends and participated in a variety of activities. Dad participated in trivia, bingo, pinochle, poker, and proudly acted in the production of “Check, Please.” During Covid, the Concord team devised ways for the residents to stay connected with family while complying with State of IL regulations which both Dad and our family were very grateful for. My Dad was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force and loved the Veteran community at Concord. The staff truly cares about the residents - Dad loved them all and they were all very kind to him and very caring towards him. Recent renovations to the facility are well done and quite nice. Concord was a great place for my Dad - he really enjoyed his time there and we were confident that he was cared for and safe.

We moved our 65 year old cousin, who needs a walker, into Concord four months ago and we are extremely happy with our decision! The staff is attentive, excellent and very helpful. Having medical help on premises and visiting regularly is a tremendous convenience instead of having to take her to outside appointments. They make every effort to get the residents out of their rooms and stay active plus she loves the food. Had we not discovered Concord Place we would have been paying twice the rental amount elsewhere! We outfitted her freshly painted with new carpeting studio with furnishings from yard and garage sales, thrift stores and online used forums and she loves it! Take the tour and you'll be convinced.
So I will start by saying I should have visit my mother more often and for extended periods. Covid played a big part in the last few years with the lack of visitation. But then, life in general. My mother has been a resident for several years. Over the past six months or maybe longer, Mom contacted other family members and me with several personal safety concerns regarding other residents suggesting harm to others and even mentioning having a gun. And the cleanliness in general. Both my mom and I had called and left messages with either no return call or follow-up. Another thing is my mom was always sick, and the number of residents and lack of cleaning added to this concern also. I had called a few weeks back to inquire about my mom being sick and spoke with a nurse, and I didn’t much assistance. The home is supposed to clean the rooms weekly, all they do is sweep, vacuum, and take trash out. I also want to mention the elevators smell so terribly bad you want to vomit getting into. I visited my mom a few weeks back and realized her room was infested with roaches, I asked my mom if they spray, and she said it'd been a while since they had exterminated. With so many elderly residents and the recent construction, I feel it’s pushing the roaches to higher floors. Either way i felt compelled to immediately start the process of finding a new assisted living home for my mom. This is not an easy process, and notification prior was not the 30/60 days asked because it all happened so fast, and my mom felt she would be pressured to stay if she approached staff. Not the mention, a few front desk people are not very friendly, from what my mom told me. Now comes my interaction on move day- I pulled up with a Uhaul truck and, while walking to the door, was approached by Christine to inquire whether I was assisting with a move-in or out. Also adding she was not aware of any for this day. I was hesitant to talk on behalf of my mom, but I ended up mentioning the safety concern about a resident and was told he was in jail now. Well, that's great, but had you returned my calls, I may have known that. I then mentioned the roach infestation, and she got pretty quiet and then could only explain that without 30/60 say notice, my mother would still be responsible for two more months of payment, and she would provide a copy of the lease. I am definitely no spring chicken myself and definitely didn’t want to have to move my mom as fast as I did- but I was compelled too knowing the living conditions and my mom flicking roaches off her bed and having them fall on her when getting in the shower. We left mid-month paid in full, giving the home notice to be able to clean and rent. I left the room in order, only leaving the bed and dressers based on roaches. Otherwise, I did a basic cleaning. Pictures to support are attached. Oh, and I will follow up with the health department, also. I genuinely feel bad for other residents with no other options or family to see living conditions themselves.
We have a senior care crisis hanging over us in this country and we need to have creative solutions to it. Concord strikes a special balance of affordability and quality. Administration has been very friendly. I've been very satisfied with the in house doctor as well. Food is great. I am waiting for more reports from my Dad on activities and outings. I have examined several options for my Dad. Most other places in the Chicago region (without waitlists) focus on sinking their teeth into Medicaid, VA funds, or the few lucky to have deep retirement assets. Is there anyplace left for aging individuals to afford the care they need? Parents simply moving in with their kids is a complicated option. Concord is not going to be as regal as other assisted living places but it isn't outdated or out of maintenance. I think Concord accomplishes this by scale: it is a big tower with lots of units. This drives the costs down, this makes it possible to hire quality help to service a full service restaurant. It also looks like it is on cheap land in between a difficult highway interchange and a railyard. Again, a fine compromise for the value.
I have begun the supportive living process for one of my parents at Concord Place. Everyone I have met at Concord Place has been a blessing and very supportive. Tony is open and honest in his guidance, and really put our uncertainties at ease. Christine is amazing in her counsel, and her follow up is excellent. The facility has been remodeled recently, and is totally up to date, and still smells brand new a year later. They even have an actual movie theater. The front desk attendants are friendly and helpful as well. Based on my admission experience, I would very much recommend Concord Place. (Happy to update this review after admission.)
