Mom is finally enjoying life. My mom had lived alone for many years and she was alone last March she became critically ill. After a long stay in the hospital and rehab, we started looking for a place where she could come out of her shell, meet people and enjoy life again. A Place for Mom recommended Churchman's Village Atrium and after meeting Sydney, touring the apartments and meeting residents, I was excited for mom to move in! I was able to decorate her apartment so cute and she has really thrived there, I no longer have to worry about her eating right because the meals and menus are great, I don't have to worry about her falling with no one there to help her. She's made friends, goes on outings. Best of all, my handicapped brother stays on the weekend sometimes and the staff and residents are so nice to him. I live in NC and she didn't want to move out of state because of my brother so this has been such a load off my mind knowing she's well taken care of. They have great field trips and activities including family game night! Where we all got together to compete! Hilarious! And it's water in the cups! LOL! I visit often and the staff and residents make me feel right at home too!

Well where do I start.. I am so grateful to have found this new home for my Mom. It's like a breath of fresh air. The nurses actually follow protocol, and are on top of their duties. They are pleasant, and go out of there way to make sure the patient feels at home. When they are challenged, they exhibit patience. They clean the rooms, and empty trash daily. They actually do there jobs! It's a smaller facility compared to other facilities, which allows them to pay more attention to the patients. When you walk in you don't have the urine smell hit you in the face, and it continues to smell good throughout the building. I could go on and on... where my Mother came from and compared to other skilled facilities I have visited, this is the best in Delaware you will find! Keep up the good work team, because that they are! Thank you!
I recently was there for rehab. The staff providing rehab were committed and caring. I only wish they were not time pressured, so they could be relaxed and spend more time with patients. Despite this, they do a good job. The nursing staff including the direct care staff, work very hard. It seems each staff member has many patients to care for, they still do a good job. The facility is cleaned daily and there are no bad smells, even though there is lots of incontinence. The food is good, especially for an institutional setting. The facility is old and not as modern as today’s nursing facilities, although they try to make it look as nice as possible. I didn’t want to mention any names because I didn’t want anyone to feel overlooked. I do have to mention social worker Tish , she is amazing, and can get thing done in a couple of days that it would take others months to do. There are always several issues at anyplace. I do not feel that it is anything worth listing, as they are issues that could easily be resolved. I wasn’t there but for a couple of weeks, I would have liked more time and could have made more progress, that’s my personal issue.
Do not send your family here. My grandparents were stolen from and lied to back in early 2000s and they died there. Now my father is being released and they don't have a clue how to even communicate his release. It would be better to let them pass away at home with some dignity then dying in that hell hole
The Atrium has been home to our mom for nearly 7 years, and she is very attached to it! Kelly has been a very nice new addition to the staff, with her warm and welcoming countenance. Tiya and Katie have been such fabulous care givers in the meals and activities departments! While resident friends who've been such a blessing have come and gone, the consistency of Tiya and Katie has been a huge blessing to Mom! Also, Sheila taking such care of the apartments, and doing the little things that bless the resident in their own space is a huge blessing as well. Mom gets a surprising amount of space for the amount that she pays, making it easy for relatives to visit overnight! With Tiya in charge of activities, Mom is busy most days of the week, and that occupation gives her things to look forward to. It has really perked her up, and we have noticed a big bump in her spirits! This is a tough season of life, for sure, and we are thankful that Mom has enjoyed the consistency of this one residents for so many years now.
