My mom passed away at 94 after living for two years at Charter Senior Living of Chattanooga. The loving care she received while there was extraordinary! She started in independent living and transitioned to assisted living. This facility has been undergoing some significant upgrades and it continues to improve. It is a great choice for a reasonable cost with high quality care. The Executive Director is so personally involved and demonstrates her commitment to the best quality of life practicable for every resident. We are so blessed that our mom received the care and living dignity she had at Charter Senior Living of Chattanooga.

Ms. Kendra is legitimately living being the hands and feet of Jesus! We were in a really rough situation with my dad and the passing of my grandma. Kendra was an answered prayer and had a room ready so quick for my dad! They even allowed us to store some items for my dad at the center because I had to get back to my home out of state. She met with us one on one to explain how Charter works and provides for the residents. She made us feel very welcomed and comforted. My dad did not have a way to get from his current living area to his new home and Kendra stepped up and picked him up herself! Our family truly could not be more thankful for her and this place! Ms. Kimmy in the office is also amazing! On the day we moved stuff in she let me borrow a wagon to help! My dad speaks so highly of both ladies and the workers here. They put in the effort and love to get to know each resident and take time to talk to them and make them feel at home. We highly recommend Charter to anyone looking for a place for independent living or assisted living. The building is clean, pretty, and renovated. The services are fantastic and they involve families in everything!
On numerous occasions I visited my mom and she would be sitting in wet clothes and chair. Room would be unkempt. When we tried to get an appointment with Kendra to discuss anything she never responded. My mom fell and was sent to rehab at another facility. Several times we tried to get in touch with Kendra to see when she was going to get to go back to charter. No response but they sure got their money out of her bank account. I don't recommend this place to anyone.
The experience my loved one and I had with this location was beyond comprehension. I will start with the most unacceptable action. My loved one fell ill, and in the early hours of the morning needed to be taken by ambulance to the hospital. Where she was immediately placed into ICU, with end of life stages beginning. Myself, as the emergency contact, and the ONLY contact in her file WAS NEVER NOTIFIED. Not one phone call was made to me to let me know that she was even in the hospital. Not only was her emergency contact not notified, her DNR was not sent with her to the hospital. The hospital called Charter to ask if there was a DNR on file, and they said NO! I have records with confirmation of receipt by the Director when the DNR was emailed. How does such oversight happen? What kind of incompetence allows this to happen? There is no excuse not to contact the emergency person on file. A few days later, I personally went and spoke with Kendra at Charter to get an answer as to why I was not contacted. She apologized, said that she “thought “I had been contacted and would get down to the bottom of it. Instead of an apology I asked to please let me know what happened. I debated filing a complaint. I now wish I had and may still do so. It has been a month since I’ve made this request. I have heard nothing. The decent and professional thing to do would to advise me of the situation and fix it for the future residents and families. My loved one is Home with the Lord now. However the residents deserve more dignity and respect than this facility provides. I should have known on move-in day things were not as the seem, the apartment was not completed, which we found out as the movers pulled up. The Director made promises to make repairs to the apartment that never were completed. There were repeated leaks from the floor above to which I would have to constantly inquire about getting the water dried up so that my loved one wouldn’t slip and fall. One particular large leak I had to push her furniture to the middle of the room because the floor was so wet. It took two weeks before a maintenance worker came down with towels (towels?!) to dry up the water. Guess what, it was already dried! Water stains stayed on the ceiling until the day she died. I’ve attached a picture of where the leak began right outside her door. These ceiling panels stayed off revealing mold and grime for over 9months! Again, I documented. I believe it was never repaired because 1) lack of competent management, 2) because her room wasn’t where any new potential residence would tour. I have many examples that I witnessed with this location. The residents deserve to be treated with kindness, dignity, and at the very least they should have a clean well maintained facility. Btw, I wanted to discuss this privately with the regional manager before making a public review. I have asked charter for the contact information and surprise surprise, the office did not know her contact info.
So thankful for the continued care, love, and concern shown for my mom throughout the 5+ years spent at SV/Charter Sr. Living. Kendra and the staff there have been very accommodating in meeting our needs at many different levels. It is such a comfort knowing that Mom is being cared for by those who are called to provide the individual attention needed by the residents.
