Exceptional Care at Cedarbrook Senior Living – Highly Recommended My wife stayed at Cedarbrook Senior Living of Bloomfield Hills from January 2025 to February 2025, and I cannot express enough gratitude for the care and attention she received. From the very beginning, I met with Dena (Executive Director) and Tatiana (Head Nurse) to discuss my goals for my wife's care. They took the time to listen, understand, and ensure that every request was fully met. My wife had ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease), which required specialized care, and the staff at Cedarbrook provided it with compassion, professionalism, and unwavering dedication. The caregivers were attentive, kind, and always available when needed. Knowing that my wife was in such capable hands gave me great peace of mind. If you are looking for a senior living facility that truly prioritizes the well-being of its residents, I highly recommend Cedarbrook Senior Living of Bloomfield Hills.

My mom has lived here for 4 years. I’ve been happy with the care she’s received overall, and when I wasn’t, I felt that the staff listened to my concerns, addressed them, and kept up communication with me. Recently I was not happy with a new staff member regarding her decisions. We exchanged viewpoints, but got nowhere. I contacted Deena, the Executive Director, in the early morning around 6 a.m. That same staff member and I disagreed a few days later, and I contacted Amber at 6:45 a.m. Both answered their cell phones, listened to my concerns, and addressed them with that staff member right away (I can’t think of another senior facility where that would happen. ). By the way, that staff member is no longer working there. Tationa, the Director of Nursing, followed up with me that day, too. Amenities are phenomenal there. They have a movie theater in house; a cafe for residents, family, & guests; a pub where monthly socials are held; arts & crafts; monthly outings to restaurants; concerts, and so much more. Are there some things there that can be improved upon? Yes. Do they identify problems and do their best to rectify them? Yes, I believe so. My mom likes Cedarbrook, and I’m happy with the staff throughout the building, including the nursing staff.
updated April 2025: Do your homework if you are interested in the nursing floor at CB. Check certifications...RN, LPN and CPR. My mother has since passed away since my 1st review in 2023 but its my mission to get the word out about the poor care at CB. My hope is through these reviews the nursing care at CB improves. I will continue to ask around the community and read reviews. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2023: Please do your due diligence before you bring your loved one to Cedarbrook. I know it's a hard decision to determine the best place for your loved one and you feel like the more you pay the better the care - don't be fooled liked we were, this is not the case at CB. You will pay $13k+ (Oct 2022) a month for nursing care and it’s very upsetting the way they treat patients. My mother was overmedicated, severe bed sores, dirty room and sheets and staff sleeping on the job. One positive thing about CB is PT They were our lifeline and made our loved one feel loved and heard. Thank you ! update 3/2024: Since we left the one person we trusted and was our voice has also left PT so be sure to ask questions on their PT care. There is zero training for this staff, they have no idea how to care for a patient other than distributing pills. The RN ? (I would check credentials...she may have completed school by now 3/2024) however in 2022 she was being called an RN and not done with school and the Dr is no where to be found on the floor even on the days he does rounds. My sick mother is a Registered Nurse and often showed the staff how to do things. Ask for certifications its critical and what training they receive to care for your loved one. Oakland county residents, there are other places for your loved ones in the area and outside the county. Please do your homework and trust the reviews. Reach out to me should you have additional questions - reply to this thread. I'm happy to share specific examples with you. I have proof of the poor care and lack of via emails with the Sr. staff/Dr on call and lots of photos/videos.
Cedarbrook has been great with my mother. She has transitioned from their assisted living to the nursing home side. The staff are wonderful. There are many events that make her day to day living enjoyable. We love visiting and my kids love getting ice cream with their nana at Claire’s! Would recommend to anyone in the area looking for options for their aging parents.
..The faculty is beautiful. The activity director does a great job keeping residents busy with games, classes and quality entertainment. Most of the staff are lovely. I need to keep a close eye on my Mother’s health. For the second time, my mother had a skin infection, the antibiotics ended before the infection resolved, and no one paid attention. The first time, her infected toe went gang green necessitating an amputation. This was years ago. Last week, a staff infection, with no more antibiotics, was ignored, and got worse. In the nine days since the house doctor prescribed bandage changes and antibiotics, not one staff member looked at my mother’s wound, nor had any staff member changed one bandage. With staff infection, three bandage changes per day is protocol. When I made calls to nurses to get new antibiotics ordered, I was told by two nurses that bandages changes had happened by staff, just not every day due to my Mom being too busy to allow anyone to help her. My mom is very sharp. She insists that she made any bandage changes herself. An aid provided her gauze to mop up the pus. I am upset by the negligence and dishonesty. Had I not been shown the wound after antibiotics ended, and been able to take action, who knows if my mom would still be here. Staff can turn into MRSA. After a full morning of conversations with staff, my Mom received great care, and her wound healed quickly. Every time my Mom has gone into the hospital from Cedarbrook, she went because I figured out that she was in need of the ER. . Each time she was admitted. I had expected a higher level of care. As an aside, I work as a massage therapist. I am licensed and insured. I have a five star rating. I have asked permission to work on my Mom’s friends, in their apartments, with a portable table or chair. . Cedarbrook will not allow a resident to hire a massage therapist (or receive services for free) to come to their room to assist them. Residents may only hire an employee of the in-house spa for this service. No employee exists, nor has existed for years. Therefore, residents are denied access to this care in their apartments, or without leaving the Cedarbrook campus. I did speak with the spa regarding working under their umbrella, but the pay they would offer is too low.
