My Dad moved to Cedarhurst from another facility. The difference is night and day. Cedarhurst is so much brighter with attractive, broad hallways. And the food is much better. They have multiple activities scheduled throughout most of the day. So, there is a lot more social time for Dad to interact with other residents. We worried that Dad would have difficulty adjusting to his new environment. But we needn’t have worried. In two days he was fully engaged with the community. The main thing, though, is that they are fully staffed. I can usually find staff easily whenever I need to talk to someone. The staff are great! From top to bottom.
Professional, knowledgeable staff. Kind, respectful, caring people. Jennifer manages a well organized, efficient operation that provides outstanding care for the residents. My mother was well cared for in the last months of her life. Many thanks to all of the wonderful staff members at Cedar Creek.
Our mother is a resident at Cedarhurst. The care given to our mother is both dedicated and heartfelt. Mom is not a pushover even at this point in her life. She recognizes caring people who "treat her like a human being". Mom hugs and kisses the staff. That comes from the heart. Our journey has been personally challenging, however, we could not make the trip without the good people at Cedarhurst. The nursing and administrative teams are trusted advisors. Yes, there are little things here and there that for some elude perfection. Life is not perfect. Consistency of effort and sincerity matter most. Those qualities are here in abundance from the Director and executed happily by the entire team.
My wife entered Cedarhurst nearly a year ago. It was good at the time, but has grown to be a place that has transformed her life. I see her every day, and we laugh together in a way that had not happened for the last few years. I would not have imagined a year ago that her life could be as good as it is. This morning I visited and we had coffee together, then assembled a set of shelves together, took a walk outside and sat in the sun in the courtyard, and then came back in and worked a jigsaw puzzle . I look forward every day to my visits with her. I credit this success to excellent medical care, and above all to the kind and thoughtful staff at Cedarhurst. I have not met a single staff member who does not go the extra mile for residents. I have noticed, by the way, that staff turnover seems less than it was in the past, and less than in most similar institutions in Bloomington. Part of the secret for the staff's caring attitude may be the clear sense that staff have a sense of shared community among themselves as well. All of the staff are great, but four have had a special impact in Barbara's life. Jennifer, the head of nursing, and Michelle her assistant have regularly reached out to comfort and help her when that was needed, and I know from my conversations with them that they are always thinking creatively about how to help her. Sometimes when I cannot get over, Jennifer has asked Barbara if she would like to go out for a walk.. Julie, the chef, and James her assistant have made an extra effort to design meals especially tailored to Barbara's preferences. They even bring her meals to her room because Barbara prefers to eat privately; James has great conversations with her when he comes by. Julie hugs EVERYONE she meets, including Barbara and me. And her food, which I have shared when Barbara has her meals, is really good. I have read many reviews of services and products myself, and I know this is an unusually enthusiastic review. But I assure you it is from the heart. I am very grateful to everyone at Cedarhurst for what they have done for Barbara. UPDATE AFTER ANOTHER 6 MONTHS: I am just checking in to say that what I wrote half a year ago still applies, and even more than when I wrote it then. I am so impressed with the compassionate and careful treatment of residents. Jennifer, the head nurse, learned that my wife liked to go on short walks to a nearby pond, and has often gone the extra mile to check her out and take her down to the pond. A few months ago, one of the staff acquired a wonderful dog that she named "Cedar"; Cedar spends every weekday at Cedarhurst, and my wife loves him. These are just two examples, but ALL of the staff are kind and caring. In many ways, other than the inevitable decline in memory, I now once again have with me the wife I knew ten years ago. I give full credit for this to the good care she has received at Cedarhurst.
