Terrible staffing issues. Pathetic at following through with calls for help. My husband has an AVERAGE response time of over 2 hours every time he rings for help. Pathetic upper management. Lazy caregivers - and extremely sloppy in housekeeping. Actually had to wake up his caregiver to ask her how he fell in the shower that morning??? She was asleep at the nurses station. Example #1 I picked up my husband on Friday AM for the weekend. Sheets were removed from his bed to be laundered. Returned 9:30 pm Sunday evening. No sheets on bed. I went hunting and found them mildewed in the WASHING MACHINE. They sat they’re for 3 days wet!! Bathroom was also mildewed due to several soaking wet towels on the shower seat from his THURSDAY shower. Unbelievable. Example #2 Most recently I picked him up for a weekend visit and he was out of 3 of his 6 medications. WTH?? They had to call them into my pharmacy over 40 miles away so he would be properly medicated. I would not let them supervise my goldfish. He’s moving out this week!!!

I have been most pleased with the care here since moving my mom into the memory care unit. The staff is so kind and understanding in such a difficult stage of life. They have made themselves available to me well beyond the regular workday hours and are prompt with responding to my questions and/or needs. This is such a joy since I live in another state. I really feel that Mom is being well cared for.

They have a Nursing Department with Resident Care Coordinators who are knowledgeable and excellent advocates for residents and families. They hold regular care conference meetings to address specific needs of residents and families. The Activities Department offers a lively daily schedule that’s interactive and engaging. Calyx offers Physical Therapy service (Mobility Rehab) that’s seasoned and highly informational. This service is personalized, individualized and never “cookie-cutter”. There is also a regularly scheduled weekly group exercise program that’s always interactive. There a real community experience whenever this is held. Calyx Durham is proud that this has never been one’s “garden variety” calisthenics. Calyx Living of Durham continues to evolve and challenges itself forward - and this is highly appreciated by many. It takes pride in and strives to be the best there is in the world of Elderly Care. A TRUE GEM located in Durham!!
I had the pleasure of touring this facility. I was impressed with the size inside, even though it looks smaller from the exterior. It has a homey feel, which is what I was looking for. I was impressed with the dementia/memory loss unit- secure but so thoughtfully set up. Hoping i won't need the dementia unit but great that it is there if I do. The 5 star dining sounds awesome - I can't wait! They are so concerned about the residents and their well-being along with their families. This makes them the place I choose to be.
We are excited to see the beautiful new assisted-living facility growing in Northern Durham! Meeting with the staff recently at the open house showed me how Steven and Jennifer are striving to provide the best of care and living experience in a home-like setting.
