We only have wonderful things to say about The George Vowell Centre and it’s extraordinary staff. During the time that Dad spent there he was shown lovely care by all staff members. He was treated with respect and well cared for by all staff. They also showed care and concern for Mum each day we visited. We were always kept informed of Dad’s care by the Head Nurse and appointed Doctor. We can’t thank them enough for everything they did for Dad and our family.
Do not put your loved ones in this home..SHOCKING..SHOCKING. What our Mother endured in this place was nothing short of neglect..Mum was there for 6 weeks and in those six weeks what happended was nothing short of disgusting. Some lovely staff members overworked..underpaid. I am so glad there is a Royal Commission into aged care because our family will be letting them know and others of how our Mums short 6 weeks there ended so tragically. The management of Japara aged care need to have a good long look at themselves..lack of compassion being one of many.
My mother has severe dementia and is therefore living in the high needs facility called the Wattle Unit. Although the staff are caring and supportive, there aren't enough staff available especially in the afternoon and evenings. Currently there are only three staff on duty during these times to meet the needs of these residents; including being fed, hydrated and toiletted. On the Japara website it is stated that, 'We never forget that we’re caring for people, and everything about a person is important – from the emotional and spiritual through to their physical wellbeing. Unfortunately the current staffing levels in the afternoon and evening prevent this from occurring. I have now lodged three formal letters of complaint. Disappointingly the organisation still has not addressed the issues and consequently the needs of these vulnerable elderly residents continued to be compromised. The new Charter for Aged Rights covers fundamental protections - including the right for safe, quality care. I hope the management of Japara begins to address the short comings of residents in the Wattle unit by providing staffing levels that facilitate this.
