I never thought I would write a positive review about a nursing home. But, the care my mother has received at Brookwood Gardens deserves recognition. Recently, I had lunch with my mother at the facility and participated with her in the activities like dominoes and bingo. While we played, the occupational therapist came and sat by her through a few games, then gently told her' one last game because I came to take you to therapy, and I know how much you enjoy playing'. Afterwards, she walked us back to the activities area and spent quite some time talking about my mother's history and background, and then thanked me for sharing the information, While we waited for lunch, the psychiatric doctor came by and did a quick, informal and friendly assessment. Later, one of the HHAs that attend to the patients during their activities offered to take a photo of my mother and I and she forwarded it to me. When I thanked her, she offered to send more photos she already had. When I received them, I was able to see the spontaneous and sincere affection she evidenced in those photos, and just the fact that she wanted to take them said it all. My mother's hair is always brushed, and she is dressed with care and dignity in outfits that match. The nursing care is outstanding, and they give attention to any medical issue that arises, big or small. The administration, billing department, HHAs, reception and all the staff there deserve mention for their contribution as well.

Absolutely awful! This place does not tend to their patients. They force able bodied people to be in diapers and wheelchairs. Will not allow them to use a bathroom, instead put them in diapers. They lose personal belongings all the time. We have had to constantly purchase new clothing and blankets for our family because they will not return the items. If the patient is ill, they do not understand illness, instead, call for a psychological evaluation to be done, not understanding that elderly people have behavior modifications when they have infections. My family was sent out on 2 psych treatments because of his behavior when he had infections. Upon the second call for him to be transported, the EMS driver decided to transport to a hospital because his vitals were unstable, oxygen and blood sugar and heart rate were all low. Each time that he was sent out and returned to the facility, his belongings were packed up and could not be found. They then provide him with someone else's clothes and blankets. He is always cold and they would not provide him warmth. They have lost my family members eye classes. They would not assist him in putting in his teeth for eating. He was often sleeping because they wanted him sedated. Upon the return of some of his clothes after being in the hospital for two weeks, the clothes are FILTHY! The nurses and CNA's would take care of their own needs before the patients, ignoring their needs most of the time. Many times, I would hear patients calling for help and no one would tend to them. The facility itself is very depressing with very old lighting, nothing cheery about this place at all. It was enough for me to want to leave and cry.
Unfortunately, I don't have anything good to say about this place. This place used to be nice, but from the last time my mom went there, it is awful. The beds are old and rickety, the curtains on the window are grungy and filthy and you can smell the poop-infested sheets when you walk down the hallway. The staff has zero enthusiasm and they are not proactive - they don't care. The food is awful - gross. What happened? It is my hope that they improve because what I saw when I went there last was horrific...

Would like to express my self on this. I dont normally add negative reviews but this place is BAD really BAD and plenty information to add base on our family experience here READ IT ALL please. Our family member experience at Brookwood Gardens Nursing in Homestead unfortunately fell short of expectations. The most glaring issue was the lack of responsiveness to phone calls. THEY NEVER GET TO THE PHONE. if you are reading this, please CALL and see for you self. I found it incredibly frustrating to not be able to reach someone when I needed assistance or had questions. One of the most concerning aspects was the complete lack of communication regarding my family member's condition. I was never informed of any changes or updates, leaving me feeling helpless and uninformed about their well-being. Adding to my previous concerns, during the five-week stay my family member had at here. I consistently encountered obstacles in attempting to communicate with the DOCTOR overseeing their care. Despite numerous attempts, I was never able to connect with the doctor. Phone calls went unanswered, and during the times I visited in person, the doctor was unavailable. I strongly believe that effective communication between medical staff and family members is essential for providing comprehensive care and ensuring peace of mind for loved ones. I implore Brookwood Gardens Nursing in Homestead to address these critical issues promptly. Furthermore, the overall condition of the facility did not meet basic standards. It was evident that proper maintenance and cleanliness were lacking, which is concerning in any healthcare setting. After experiencing these challenges firsthand, I urge future patients and their families to consider this place and hope that by bringing attention to these issues Brookwood Gardens Nursing Homestead will take the necessary steps to rectify them promptly and provide a better standard of care for all individuals under their supervision.
