Brookdale Salem is a hidden gem! My mother moved into memory care in October 2024 and I think the staff does a really nice job of taking care of the residents. There are some very nice accommodations available in the assisted living area so if you are considering a place for your loved one to be cared for, you should really check out Brookdale!

After many months of battling a decline in my father’s health due to vascular dementia and delirium caused by poorly controlled diabetes, I could not be more thankful for the bright shining light at the end of the tunnel with Brookdale Salem! My dad loves it and it’s been many tiring months since I’ve seen him so happy and healthy! The staff are so kind and my dad loves the camaraderie of the friendships he’s building. Brookdale Salem has been a miraculous, answered prayer and I am very thankful my dad is with them!
I just wanted to say how grateful I am that Brookdale Salem has started a support group for adult children and other loved ones that are taking care of a resident at this facility. It has been nice to know that you are not alone in this experience. And it has been helpful to hear other people's stories and ways that they do things.
Great experiences here in this building. Look no further, Brookdale is the place to be. Set up a tour and get that homey welcome for yourself and your loved ones!
My mom has been a resident of Brookdale Salem for a year now. Due to certain circumstances, I had to make a quick decision for an assisted living facility. After touring 2 other places, this seemed to be her best option, both financially and location-wise. The move in process is pretty easy and straightforward. Your loved one will need a medical appointment prior to admission. Everyone was easy to work with and as assessment will be done to determine what type of care your family member will need. As another reviewer pointed out, once your loved one is moved in there is no direction as to "what now". There's no orientation for the family members or buddy system for your loved one to become acclimated to their new home. It's left up to the individual to figure things out on their own. Genesis Therapy is on site and I think everyone there gets some type of "therapy" on a regular/weekly basis. Once my mom's initial assessment was done I have not heard one word about her progress, etc. so if you're curious about what's happening with "therapy" you'll have to be the one to reach out. They'll also make sure you've got a supplemental Medicare policy so they can bill that. I feel like the monthly charges at Brookdale and probably in line with other places in the Valley. There is a $2,100 "community fee" you will be charged on admission and they will not budge on this; however, they will split it up among your first 3 month billings. Also, beware - if your loved one is at Brookdale when January 1 rolls around, be ready to see a huge increase in your bill. My mom's bill increased by $600 a month in January, and that included the removal of a care charge that she had not been receiving but was billed for. When I met with the director to discuss this increase, I was told that it was because there had not been an increase since Covid. I understand that, but my mom was not even a resident there during Covid, so...... He told me he would e-mail the corporate office and see if they'd lower the increase - I never received a copy of the e-mail nor any kind of a follow up about my inquiry, so you just pay what you pay. Most of the staff are hard working, very friendly and interact well with the residents. They offer many inside activities as well as outside trips to a variety of locations to those that want to participate. The dining room is nice and clean, small but bright and cheery. There is a fireplace and ample seating in the TV room as well as a piano that my mom plays for the residents. The Resident rooms are nice also, each have a least one window and cable TV is provided as well. There are 2 "front porches" that have plenty of seating with residents want to go sit outside. They also provide transportation to doctor appointments on Tuesday and Thursday if that is a need. Overall, my mom has done well at Brookdale - I feel like she is being taken care of in the way she needs to be.
