Brookdale Mount Vernon is a beautiful facility with friendly and capable staff. My mom is a new resident and is thrilled with the great cuisine, help with activities of daily living and friendly service!
My aunt is here and we visit as often as we can. She has been put in an area in the back where no one sees them and they can't get out. The caregivers seem nice but the place reeks of urine and the furniture is stained and dirty, not like the front area where most are not. I don't feel like she is being taken care of like she should be. Her feet and legs are always swelled and shoes and clothing look ragged and not the cleanest. We took her some toiletries shampoo and bath soap and such because there are never anything in her bathroom. Who knows if they get anything to clean themselves with. I'm just sad that this is the way they treat them and there is nothing I can do. Lord help them all!
Hit or miss depending on who’s working. There are many good aides, however many of the nurses are disrespectful to the employees. I was treated very unprofessionally when working here by the memory care shift lead and nurses. They have little regard for the health and safety of their employees as well. One of my coworkers called off because she was injured but management harassed her until she came in to work anyways. One night I was throwing up and in a lot of pain. The night shift lead permitted me to go home but management harassed me until I went back as well. Recently I called in sick because I was having very intense chest pain. Nurses were rude to me even when I turned in my doctors note from the ER. I immediately quit. I hope they don’t overlook this and change the way they treat their staff. The residents and good employees there deserve so much better.
Brookdale has a home environment. The staff is friendly, attentive and informative. My Aunt is memory impaired and the area she lives in is nicer than what she has had in many years. She is very happy there. I am thankful.
