Absolutely awful My grandmother has gone down hill since being here. If you want your loved ones to suffer this is the place. The staff is rude and it’s bare minimum. And the residents have horrible attitudes and out anyone new like it’s high school it’s sick.

Wow, what a great place for my mom! After 3 months in and out of hospitals and rehab facilities, I've gotten a good taste of a poor facility and a great facility, and those in between. I have been so impressed with Brookdale Altamonte so far and am so happy I chose to move my 83 year old mom there. The place is clean, it's nicely decorated, and looks "upscale." I'm impressed with David Wayne, the Exec Director. He truly seems to care about the residents and committed to his job. I've even seen him in there on Saturdays and Sundays when I went to visit my mom. The staff is attentive, always responding to my mom's page within 5-7 minutes, and they are pleasant about it. They don't seem bothered like so many of the staff I experienced at other facilities. I've been pleasantly surprised at how many activities are available, and happy that they really encourage the residents to get out of their rooms, participate in the community and stay active. My wife worked as a therapist for many years in geriatric environments and she too has been very impressed as well, so that says a lot.
They are extremely under staffed! The girls work very hard although they are expected to do unrealistic work. On many occasions I have seen one Care Aid for nearly 100 residents. The facility is two floors and for one person be expected to do the work for all is just to much. It is no wonder they can not keep staff. Although on a normal afternoon they expect two Care Aids to be able to care for the 100 residents. They sell you on personal care, although it is often quick care. Don't get me wrong, the activities they provide are great and many of the staff have formed personal relationships with the residents. The staff that is there stays because it is clear they love what they do and they love the residents. Although, it is also clear the Executive Director David Wayne has never had any Assisted Living experience before. It is very hard to talk to him and express concerns of the facility. And when you do get the chance to talk he clearly does not listen nor care to understand. The rooms in this facility are a great size and the courtyard is beautiful. This facility has recently been redone with new paint, carpet, and furniture. So for the most part it is clean. The beauty salon and traveling doctor is a nice touch and very convenient for many.
The staff tries very hard to make the residents feel at home. It is a safe and caring environment. My mother has been a resident for a year and has adjusted to her new home. The nurses give her medication on time and the rooms are kept clean and tidy by housekeeping. Anne and Rich do a great job and advocate for the residents. My mom loves the soups which are made fresh daily. Brookedale's corporate office needs to spend some money on updating elevators so they are reliable and don't break as residents in wheelchairs need them. Doors for lobby bathrooms and courtyard need an automatic opener as they are heavy and difficult for the elderly to open. My five stars are based on the staff and general living conditions as I will not blame them for their corporation's faults.
Helped my mother move there last spring. She's happy with the overall experience. Had heard of staffing shortages, but she is well taken care of, with very few cases where staff was unresponsive due to time constraints. Good communication and care for residents during the recent hurricane..
