We were helping a disabled veteran get into an assisted living at a Veterans Home. Unfortunately, he had to spend about a month at the Brickyard. They almost killed him. The Doctors who gave him his admission examination at the Veterans Home said he fortunate that he did not have to stay there much long because they were obviously not giving him proper treatment and he would not have lasted much longer .

It's really 0 stars. I wish my sister had never had to be there. Within the first week they put her clothes on other patients. Once I went to see her and she was vomiting. I asked the nurse to help her, to give her medication. She didn't even get up from her seat. It's the worst place that I have seen and I've had family in several different places. My sister fell three times there and the last time sent her to the hospital where she died. My sister died on their watch and they didn't even have enough respect to allow her family to come pack her things. I didn't get a phone call expressing condolences. Nothing. Just my sister's things thrown in a garbage bag and not even a call telling us to pick them up. Brickyard is an awful place and the one good thing is that at least my sister doesn't have to go back. They are incompetent, unprofessional and they don't give a damn about patients. Wow! More proof that this place sucks. I responded to the email and it came up undeliverable. Guess they really don't want to fix this after all. No. They made their money off my sister and they've moved on to the next unfortunate people who end up there.
My father-in-law was moved here recently. I’d like to thank Jemai for her communication throughout the entire process as she ensured it was a smooth transfer to the facility. When I first met Jemai for a tour of the facility, I shared the concerns I had with moving my father-in-law here (he previously received hospice care within his home) and she was able to resolve those concerns for me. My husband has been to Brickyard daily to check on his dad. He is happy with the care his dad is receiving and says all the nurses have been very kind.
I write this review for the families of veterans who are limited in their choices. It’s easy to leave negative review for a place that has likely found you at one of the saddest moments of your life. The staff here have big, kind hearts and I felt that my dad was cared for in our time of need. A special shout out to the nurses and admin that eased our transition at the beginning (Kaia, Grace, Rachel, Yasmine, Lisa, Tiana, and Jemai). There were many more towards the end that I didn’t get the opportunity to know by name but who were gentle and loving just the same. VA families go with Unity hospice team and get care here.
I believe my loved one is safe, the home is clean for the most part an awful smell doesn’t hit you when you walk in. Nursing ,CNAs and management are attentive, concerns are addressed timely. As in all healthcare you have those who are genuinely caring and have a heart for those who need help, and those who only show up because they need a paycheck. I feel this facility has more of those who genuinely care. If your loved one has to go into a care facility this one is one of the better ones.
