Would rate 0 if I could. Unorganized. Be happy if your loved one gets their teeth brushed or face washed cause it will rarely happen. Aids were worked to death, always understaffed.

It is important for people to know that Berkshire Place has rehab and long term care units which are completely different experiences. I made a critical error in judgment by placing my mother in long term care at this facility and it ultimately cost her life and caused me a great deal of stress. I’m posting here to prevent someone from making the same mistake that I made and I encourage you to look up my phone number and reach out to me so I can help guide you in your decision of where to place your loved ones. While there were some great caregivers, it could not make up for the fact that they did not have enough staff to care for the long term care patients. Unfortunately, my mother had a fall shortly after she entered Berkshire Place which hastened her death. Additionally, they would not allow me to have a camera in her room which I used to keep her safe all the time she was in assisted living. Because she was alone and unsupervised for long periods of time at Berkshire Place I was unaware of what was going on. Ultimately, I had to move from my home in NC to care for her and also hire additional caregivers but the damage from her fall proved to be too great. I believe the doctor that they provide is too overwhelmed to get to know the health issues of each patient. He wrote the wrong cause of death on her death certificate and although I made the administration aware of my dissatisfaction they did not respond in what I consider an appropriate manner. I do understand as they did not want to admit any fault of their own.
This place is a two star rating because of its cleanliness and private rooms only. My dad is a long term resident, I came home for the holidays and asked a CNA if they could cut his dirty disgusting fingernails. After a week of them not doing a simple hygiene task, I did them myself. I’m lucky I still have my mom and family in the area that would normally do this, but due to my moms age (85), and the winter weather. she can’t always be there and it’s hard for her also. This is just one example, I am keeping it short. The hygiene care that he receives is totally sub par and inadequate. For the price it costs to have a loved one in here long term, the director/owner should be ashamed of themselves for the “care” they give. It truly is below average. I wish I could take him home with me, unfortunately that is just not an option. Also interesting to me is I can’t post a picture to this review. As for food, my dad calls my mom about 4 times a week saying he is hungry, they are nice enough to make him a peanut butter and jelly sandwich…..when they have the time. Pretty sure the owner and people that work there would not want their loved ones treated that way. It’s bad enough he has to be there but the lack of his needs not being met isn’t worth the money it costs to keep him there. Make sure you have someone that can be a loud voice if your loved one has to be a long term resident, and hopefully you have someone that lives in the area who is able to do wellness checks.
My husband had wonderful care while undergoing rehab at BerkshirePlace. As a former RN I can say without hesitation that the nursing care was attentive, caring and consistently supported his needs. The rehab team was superb as well. I recommend Berkshire Place enthusiastically!
Recently my dad, Frank, spent 4 weeks in the rehab unit at Berkshire Place. He was treated with kindness and respect during his entire stay. We were kept informed every step of the way during his rehab. Karen, Laura, Lisa, Patty, Jennifer and all the aides that took care of dad were wonderful to him and my family. They continued to call me after he came home to see how he was doing. He was so happy to hear that they called and were asking about him. My entire family is so appreciative of all they did for him. Thanks so much. Eileen Fusco
