It's scary choosing a good place for a parent in any facility, short term or long term, but it took only a couple of days for me to realize I made the best choice. My mom got what she needed and was discharged in much better shape than when she went in. Every time I visited, I saw friendly people, both staff and residents. The floors were clean, and the air smelled good. My mom never complained, which in itself is amazing. I was absolutely shocked that a nursing home environment could be that nice, and I am absolutely delighted that Bedford cared for my mom, treated her with dignity, and helped her make amazing progress in her recovery.

I sat and spoke with Candice yesterday at length about our Claiborne campus. She explained her facility and how they work. She was very open to letting me take up her time asking my questions. She is obviously very devoted and passionate about her patients and their families. She remembered several of her former patients that are our residents now. I will be reaching back out to her and the rest of the Bedford Care staff for sure.
Rudest people I've ever had the displeasure of talking with on the phone to get some simple information about my father. Sent to 4 different people in 5 minutes who all said "I can't tell you that information." I understand they can't tell me his medical specifics over the phone, but they couldn't even tell me if Forrest General was the same institution as Bedford. Who the heck are they hiring over there?!
CNA's on day shift are overworked and short-staffed beds go unchanged, patients u bathed and/or left in bed. Trash cans often over flow and my Mother's floor seems perpetually sticky. Housekeeping even when they mop leave pieces of trash behind like a trail. No one seems to take any effort or pride in what they do. Administration doesn't have a handle on things or the place would be running more smoothly with a lower turn over rate. DON won't even return phone calls many times. I know in my Mother's case there was no evidence of group base care plan coordination of her care. This was the reason for her severe decline/digression post-op and multiple return trips to the hospital post operatively occurring every 24-48 hours post op hip repair for almost 2 weeks while defying Doctors orders for a simple walker. They advertise "aggressive physical therapy" on their website Don't believe it! The hospital had my Mother walking in the hallway. Bedford took her back and immediately said all she can accomplish is standing and for the next 2 weeks of physical therapy at Bedford that's as far as they progressed!!! This is what Bedford calls Aggressive??? I think they may be determined to make my Mother an invalid, yet my Mother is so head strong and wants to get out of bed! Who do you think is going to win? Stay tuned... Me and the doc aren't done yet.
Maybe this place would do better for the people they are entrusted to keep alive if they paid CNA's more than 9.50 an hour. That is disgusting and they should be shut down or taken over by the government. What a disgrace and I bet Admin makes more than a comfortable wage while they keep that boot on their employees throats.
