My parents David and Shirley Bell, immigrated with my brother and his family, from South Africa in January this year. They are in their 80's and and found the whole move quite unsettling and traumatic . They moved into an Air B&B in Melbourne with my brothers family for 3 months while they all waited for their container to arrive from South Africa. During these 3 months, it became quite apparent that living all together was not a great option and that my folks needed more assistance and help than we realized. Having worked with the Freedom team for the past 4 years as a consultant and coach, I knew many of the staff members and was a huge fan of the Freedom model . It had been a dream of mine to get my folks into a Freedom village but never thought it would happen. When they immigrated here, Freedom was a natural option for us to look at . We went and had a look at the Freedom Aged Care Dromana village on the Easter weekend and 3 weeks later my folks had bought a unit within the Dromana community and moved in. Everyone within the village has made them feel so loved and welcomed . The village manager Candice and the Clinical Case Manager Louise have gone out of their way to make sure that their every need is met and gave my parents their mobile numbers for "just in case". Leaanne has popped in and helped my mom with various things from her computer to her shopping. Manthan, the resident options co coordinator , has introduced himself and explained that he will be assisting my folks apply for a home care package to get additional services, over and above the ones that Freedom supplies. Angela Taylor , the sales consultant has held their hands every step of the way and kept in regular contact with my brother and myself . All in all I could not have asked for more from the staff of Freedom and Dromana in facilitating as smooth a transition as possible . The bus takes them shopping every week and the doctor has popped into check on my mom every week! The hairdresser even came into their unit to give my dad a hair cut and his beard a trim. I cannot thank the team at Dromana enough for everything they have done to make my family part of their family. Jacqui Perkins
