I absolutely love working for Azalealand Nursing Home. I have been employed by this company for 14 months and counting. The owner David is amazing he shows appreciation and respect to his employees, the residents and residents family members. Working for someone who displays these qualities creates a more inspirational workplace, and helps me as an employee to feel more satisfied with their role and the organization. If you are in search a professional facility to place your love ones Azalealand is the place to come. They will be treated with respect and dignity.

Bud and I would like to say thank you to ALL the staff for the superior care given to Bud as he was recouping from a nasty fall and surgical recovery. Everyone was very friendly, professional, helpful, and patient with Bud. The food was very good as well! Thank you again for your attention and supporting us thru our difficult time.
The amount of overwhelming neglect, abuse, and general disregard for patient well-being is appalling. Patients left in their own filth for up to 12 hours sometimes. No concern for actually rehabilitating patients, just do the bare minimum do get thier money. After a short stint of rehabilitation care, my grandmother, who'd had a fall that resulted in a brain bleed and then brain surgery, this facility let insurance know she was ready to be discharged. Previous to this, throughout all of her time there, we were told repeatedly that she was "too weak" to do basically anything on her own. Their change of heart came "coincidentally" right after we informed them we didn't want to move her to long-term nursing care, which would result in Azalealand receiving 95% of her social security check every month. When we explained that insurance and medicaid/Medicare would foot the bill for continued care the Azalealand staff told us "they didn't do that there." Keep in mind every other facility we've spoken too has told us this is 100% normal and wouldn't be a problem. So because Azalealand lied to insurance and told them she's ready to be released, even though she very clearly can't walk on her own and still needs rehab care, we now have to figure out how my family and I will be able to take care of her while working full time. God-forbid she falls again, Azalealand will be liable and will surely get off scott-free. If you care for them, do not bring your family here.
My mother and I moved to Savannah from MA. My mother had an episode. She had these episodes from time to time but medical professionals in Massachusetts felt that it was due to dehydration. However, her episode was far more severe than any of the other episodes she had experienced. I was very upset and concerned and panicked and called 911. I had found a primary care doctor and a cardiologist before moving from Massachusetts to Savannah and they were connected to Memorial Hospital so as a result, the paramedics took my mom to a Memorial Hospital. My mother had heart failure that she had been living with for years. With heart failure, you have to be very careful not to over-hydrate a person. However, the ER doctor misdiagnosed her and gave her a full IV. His diagnosis was that her sodium levels were off even though I explained that they were normal for her. After that, they discharged my mom and I brought her home. Once we were home it was obvious that she was having a heart failure episode. I called 911 that night and I had the paramedics take her to St Joseph's Candler. In less than 48 hours after being admitted to St Joseph, the Hospitalist discovered that the reason for the episode was a medication that she was taking and He adjusted her medication while she was there. After three weeks at St Joseph Medicare informed us that they would no longer pay for my mother's Hospital stay. Even though she was getting stronger and appeared to be much better she was not in any way ready to go home at this point. She was still on oxygen, also on a colonoscopy bag and she could not walk with her walker. the doctor agreed that she should go into rehab until she was stronger and had extensive physical therapy. My mother went into this nursing home recovering, stronger than she was when she was first admitted to St Joseph. She had started getting the use of her hands back and was starting to make some strides with her walking through the physical therapy department at Saint Joseph. However, after six or seven days at the Azalealand nursing home my my mother's heart failure took a turn for the worst. Due to the fact that my mother had heart failure, she should have been on a heart-healthy diet. I had discussed this with the dietitian and the person in charge of Azalealand at the time and was told that they can't provide any type of special diet for their rehab patients. Just an example but what if a diabetic individual at that nursing home/ rehab required a diet that is consistent with most diabetic individuals? So my question was would they serve meals to a diabetic that were high in sugar not to mention that there were more than likely other patients in this facility that needed a specific type of diet? However, the diet wasn't the only problem. They were either severely understaffed or their staff was extremely lazy. my mother who was 100% within her faculties told me that she was concerned that someone was trying to poison her. At the time I didn't know how to respond to that, but I wish I had taken her out of that facility right then and there. On Christmas Day my mother was extremely lethargic but at that point, I wasn't too concerned I just thought that she was tired out from the day before. The day after Christmas I went to the head of the Azalealand rehab/nursing home due to the fact that the colonoscopy bag appeared to be the same as the day before. it was then that I also noticed that there was extreme swelling in my mother's ankles and fingers which is a sign of heart failure. That day the head of Azalealand was back from her holiday vacation, and I was able to request that they run a series of tests on my mother. While I was waiting for the test to come back my mother, my best friend and the most important person in my life stopped breathing. I know as well as I know myself that her death was a result of blatant neglect. It was very painful for me to write this and it took me a very longtime to do so. However, if it prevents others from putting their loved one in this home/rehab it was worth it
Had a loved one here for rehab and PT. Can't say enough about the staff and patient experience. Being locally/family owned, the team at Azalealand clearly places emphasis on patients. All of the nurses and therapists were kind and helpful. I would recommend Azalealand over ANY other skilled nursing facility in the Savannah area.
