I am giving a 5 so, people will see this. This facility is changing from an independent and assisted living facility to JUST an independent facility. All assisted living resident received a 60 day notice to vacate or sign a new contract for independent living. It has been horrible for everyone, residents and families as they scramble to decide what to do. The whole situation is a hot mess. The director can't even answer questions to those residents that are already independent. No answers about security after staff leaves for the day. The front door DOES NOT ALWAYS CLOSE leaving the building unsecured. It has been like this for the 3+ years my Mom has lived here. I don't blame Pacifica (Aura). The owner doesn't care (a man hiding behind an LLC). My advice is NOT to move here. Pacifica (Aura) is closing properties or changing the designation of properties. It's shady.

My experience of Avila Senior Living has been very positive. Andrea and all the staff are very helpful to the residents here. Its downtown location makes it a very good choice.
My dad moved to Avila Senior Living in October 2024 and likes it so much he told one of his doctors he likes it more and more every day. He has a very nice one bedroom apartment that is furnished with furniture etc from his home of 65 years. He is 94 and made the decision to move to assisted living before we had to present the idea to him. He really didn’t have a choice after falling and breaking his femur while living alone. However it being his decision made it easier for all involved. The executive director, the caregivers, the activities director, the chef and all other staff are very caring with positive attitudes! In addition to all of the above who wouldn’t want to live in downtown San Luis Obispo.
Avila Senior Living has a marvelous location. With a few moments of walking are art galleries, museums, shops, cafes, coffee houses, the Apple Store and a charming creek that gently winds it way through San Luis Obispo. For more details, plan a visit. You will not be disappointed.
It has been quite an up and down course for Avila Senior Living. Unfortunately, mostly down. The facility is in a great location with access to downtown SLO, but is owned by a a large corporation and seems to put profit ahead of resident and facility care. There are some fantastic and caring staff members, but the facility has a hard time maintaining staff. They have hired and let go of multiple staff in administration, maintenance, food service and caregiving. For example, there have been 5 executive directors in 2 1/2 years….4 Food Service Directors etc. The current Executive Director is working hard but things are very difficult and I am changing what was a 4 star review for a few months down to a 2…😰 I worked very hard to improve the facility and while some changes were made as a result of Family Council Oversight, Pacifica, who owns Avila is concerned about the bottom line much more than the residents. The facility is in a beautiful location, but is sadly mismanaged by the corporate office.
