Six years ago, my sister moved to StroneRidge/Avalon a senior living community in Mystic, CT that offers their residents a continuum of care. While my sister faces several healthcare-related issues she was able to live semi-independently until last year when she transitioned to Avalon, the nursing care side of the complex. I have been impressed with the quality of the facility, the staff and management team that operates this complex. This became even more apparent in the last six months as the Covid-19 pandemic has gripped our nation. The management team has shown true leadership in responding to the crisis and ensuring the safety of their residents (our loved ones). They have instituted operating policies and procedures based on best practice that ensure the health and safety of both staff and residents. They are highly effective communicators sharing weekly video updates on their on-going Covid-19 screening and prevention efforts. During this time not a single case has been reported at StroneRidge/Avalon. For someone who lives more than 1,000 miles away, this provides tremendous peace of mind for me and other family members spread across our county. They have also offered the residents social distant activities and events that help to mitigate the sense of isolation that comes with a long-term quarantine. In-person family visits are not possible currently due to government mandates and best practices prevention polices. In response, Avalon’s management team has developed multiple platforms and help to facilitate family member communication with their loved ones via Zoom, FaceTime, window visits, and more recently, outside social distance visiting through a plexiglass partition. I am most impressed with the quality of the direct care staff. I cannot say enough about the respect, genuine care and concern they staff have for the residents. I have witnessed this over and over during my weekly Zoom sessions with my sister. I am so thankful my sister is in Avalon and receives such high-quality care. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Sincerely, Andrew M. Mosko

I recently spent 12 days rehabilitating from a fall which caused a fracture of my L2 vertebrae. I was very pleased with the level of care I received. The staff was happy and very helpful. The physical therapist and therapy studio were onsite making everything so convenient. I highly recommend Avalon. The ambulance that transported me from Westerly hospital even said I was going to a great facility.
My husband has been at Avalon since early July because of complications related to Parkinson's disease. Of course something like this is devastating to a family. However, the staff at Avalon is so good and so caring that they have turned a horrible reality into a reality that we have become comfortable with because we know he is content and well cared for. He and I moved to StoneRidge because of the availability of Avalon in case we needed it, and every day I am more convinced that we absolutely did the right thing.
My sister suffered a traumatic brain injury 10 years ago, and when it became apparent that she could no longer live at home, we did a search of long term care facilities on the East Coast. StoneRidge and the Avalon Health Center was by far the best option, and it has gone way beyond our original hopes and expectations. The quality of care, the professionalism, the meticulous environment, the genuine caring way in which all of the staff interact with the residents, from the director to the aides, has surpassed what we imagined when we moved our sister into the community. I am so grateful for the care and attention that she is given, and I know that she enjoys the highest quality of life as a resident. I am grateful for the genuine care she is provided, and I know we chose the perfect community for her as she is not only well cared for but treated as an individual and a valued member of the community.
The phone lines have been out of order for 3 days. You cannot call this facility to reach loved ones. We have reported this to Avalon and the Stonington Police. This is a terrible situation.
