Our family cannot say enough positive things to express our pleasure and gratitude to Artis Senior Living Facility. When we needed to find assisted living that provided a higher level of care the search was not easy. The websites, visits, interaction with each location’s staff were not leading to a new home for Mom. Things completely turned around when our family found Artis. The single floor building, the four small groupings of residents with their own dining rooms and hallway to private bedrooms created such a sensible and calming layout. The four “neighborhoods” exist off a circle so if your loved one wanders, they will not be able to get lost. The activity room is the heart of the program with guided activities between every meal. There is chair yoga, music programs with piano accompaniment, and many other options that keep them moving through the whole day so they all sleep well each night! This program is strictly for dementia care which makes it unique and the small maximim of 64 residents permits there to be a nice hustle and bustle as everyone joins for programs, but not stressful running from patient to patient. All of the residents are so well cared for with respect to being clean, dressed nicely with shining hair, and participating in the programs they like unless they need a nap or aren’t feeling well. The nursing staff is kind and attentive, the care partners who help with bathing, dressing and other activities of daily living are so loving to the residents, I hear Mom’s main care partner calling her “my princess”. The program director and the activity coordinator are patient and helpful even when you are confused or upset with the changes and declines in your loved ones. They are supported by a geriatric psychiatrist who takes care of the residents. This is extremely rare and an asset that will mean much more to you as your family member shows more acute dementia-related issues. When families are doing their best to search for a new home for their beloved mom, dad, child or anyone with dementia, a safe haven that provides constant outstanding care, we believe you will love Artis Senior Living of Chestnut Ridge as much as our family does. I came here recently with my mother to visit her uncle. I was pleased with the facility. It was cozy and clean plus the staff I interacted with were nice. I really like that my uncle can move about and not feel caged in. The goal is for him to still feel independent with the help he needs around the clock. However, one of the nurses I was conversing with pointed out their Director of Health and Wellness which alarmed me. I realized that this facility's recent DHW hire is someone I saw initiate a very public physical altercation in Middletown recently-the woman’s name is Jordan Metellus. As a medical professional myself, I always carry myself with respect. It was uneasy knowing this facility, who is taking care of my family, hires people with zero decorum and no respect for themselves or their career. Putting your family in any facility can make you feel uncertain or uneasy but it certainly doesn't help when you see the staff acting reckless outside of work hours. Hopefully, the facility will investigate and confirm their current nurses and directors are in fact capable and can maintain a level of professionalism at all times.
After volunteering in Artis Senior Living I have only wonderful things to say! Every staff member is absolutely dedicated 100 percent to the residents. Their attention to detail is amazing and they make sure that the day is filled with enjoyable and beneficial programs to enhance the quality of life of all those that are there. From PT to art or gardening, music or dance they really truly care about everyone. Anyone who sends their loved ones to Artis can rest assured that they are being well taken care of in a place that is not only safe but where they can thrive!
Upon arrival I notice the property was very well maintained, I later found out the grounds keepers name is Orlando, it set a very nice first impression. Laureen and Stephanie assisted me with all questions I had and did a very good job making sure I was well informed of everything I needed to know. Jorge the head chef also was amazing as he went above and beyond to make sure I had a nice experience
This is a wonderful community for the elderly with memory challenges. Our father is there and everyday he is out of him room involved in programming. The caregivers are kind and very patient. We are very grateful he is at Artis
