My mum was at Arcare in Templestowe and from the moment she arrived till her passing the entire nursing team and care workers were sensational. The bedroom was a terrific size with great amenities. The choice of meals was great - wasn’t repetitive. A special mention to the nurses in Serpells area who were so caring and attentive- my Mum was well looked after. It is hard to have your parent in aged care and you read lots and hear lots about how awful places are - no regrets here at al

Our family were particularly impressed with Lorraine Bourke who is the Regional Client Services Manager working from Arcare in Templestowe. We recently enquired about respite for our father and proceeded to have a meeting with Lorraine and got a tour of the aged care facility. Lorraine was exceptionally helpful and was able to direct us in all things aged care. She offered us a placement for respite free of charge for 2 weeks which we thought was fantastic and would provide our father with a better understanding of the facility and its staff. She kept us informed during the process and was genuinely caring which I think she is to all her residents. I would recommend seeing Lorraine as she will put you at ease and you can trust that what she says will happen.
We recently used the respite service at Arcare Templestowe and were very impressed by the level of care and service received in the are of our loved one. The attention to detail and follow up were duly noted. Thank you to the management and staff at Arcare Templestowe.
Receptionist jumped down my throat for not wearing a mask ... in December 2023, long after state of emergency had ended. I posed no risk to health, I was perfectly fine, not deadly or severely sick. Ironically they allow elderly residents not to wear masks on premises and I took a resident friend of mine out to the local shopping centre, lots of people unmasked, and my friend was fine (she didn't die or get sick in my presence). I won't return and wouldn't recommend anyone being a resident there, if that receptionist is what you'd have to put up with.
After 3 years of my Mum living here, would I choose Templestowe Arcare again given everything I now know about life in Aged Care...probably not. No matter how beautiful or clean a centre is what matters most ultimately is how your loved ones are treated when they most need it. Unfortunately it was a terrible 1 week leading to the day my mother passed away...stuff ups after stuff ups...worse thing was Arcare management refused to take responsibility and instead pointed the finger at their own staff...no you are ultimately responsible for your staffs actions. To say we are disappointed by how our mother was treated at the end of her life is an understatement. If I had known now I would have pulled her out and put her in a proper palliative care centre as they were grossly inept to deal with her quick deterioration ..worst still there was pain and suffering involved that I was told was "anxiety". If it wasn't for my mother's nephrologist's intervention by her attending Arcare...who knows how long my mother's actual pain and suffering would have gone on. Will be lodging a complaint as my emails written to management were just ignored. Mum's nephrologist also encouraged us to make a complaint. Mum was happy here in her 1st year prior to Covid but since then there has been a rapid deterioration at the centre, loads of staff disruption, constant resignations and inconsistencies...generally these things don't impact too much if your loved one is cognitively well and in pretty good health....when it does impact is when your loved isn't. Be prepared to monitor daily if possible to ensure proper care is given.
