I can't speak highly enough about this Assisted Living facility. The staff is incredibly compassionate and the space feels like a home. The fact that my mom could decorate her room to personalize her space was an unexpected benefit. She has one of the smallest rooms, but it's comfortable and she spends a lot of time in the living room space with other residents.

My family recently brought my Mom to Arcadia II Assisted Living of Crofton in Gambrills, MD. My Mom has dementia and was not happy at all about being placed in an assisted living facility. She was quite angry the whole time we were there on her first day. We tried reasoning with her about the friends she could make and the good meals she would have and the fact that she can stop working so hard in her own home. The following day, I wanted to call her but actually dreaded it because I was sure she would still be angry and would possibly not want to talk to me. To my surprise, she answered my call with a cheerful Hi. She sounded happier than I had heard her sound in a very long time. I was amazed. After we left, the staff must have done a terrific job in making her feel at home. I called the evening of the first day and I was told that she was doing much better than when we left. When I called the second day, I was concerned that I was being a pest, but they were happy to bring me up to date about Mom. They said she was fitting in nicely and was socializing. The staff is so nice and genuinely caring. While there the first day, I was amazed at how kindly and patiently they spoke to the residents. I was actually learning better ways of responding to Mom by listening to them. Honestly, I realize I had it all wrong. She was provided lunch the day she arrived which looked delicious even though she refused to eat it. I did find out after we left that she asked for something to eat which they gladly provided. The food on the menu for the day looked very appealing. I liked that the kitchen was right there in the heart of the facility. The residents can see the staff preparing food and the residents can walk up to the kitchen to ask questions while their food is being prepared. It had a very homey feel to it. The rooms are fully furnished or you can bring your own furniture. They have been extremely accommodating about everything I have asked of them. I have no doubts that we found the right home for Mom. I can feel good now that I know she is safe and well cared for.
What a wonderful experience! After spending 3 years in a fancy, expensive concierge assisted living community, my mom's declining condition highlighted that we were only paying for a fancy building. We started to look for alternatives and took a look at the 15-bed Arcadia community. We thought about the Assisted Living first, but my mom was declining and needed memory care. Since the day she joined Arcadia Crofton in November 2022 I realized for the first time in 3 years that I could sleep well knowing that she was well cared for and her needs were met. The building didn't have that fancy concierge lobby, but you realize quickly how little that matters. The staff are AMAZING! Like every other healthcare facility these days, turnover continues to be an issue. However, every time a new staff member is hired at Arcadia, they're professional, compassionate, friendly and caring. That speaks highly to the management quality. I can't say enough good things about our experience over the last 6 months. I highly recommend Arcadia Crofton!
Mom lived at Arcadia of Crofton for about 6 months before she passed. We very much liked the staff and residents there and will miss them. We looked at several assisted living homes in the area and this one was, by far the best. The home/room was spacious enough for the wheelchairs and walkers that are required by most, if not all the residents. And it was very nicely decorated throughout with different sections for the residents to watch TV together, make puzzles, play games, etc. The rooms are just enough and you are welcome to decorate it to make it as much like "home" as possible for your loved one. The residents are encouraged to come out and participate with the other residents but are not forced to do so if they prefer to remain in their rooms and do their own thing. They always had three home cooked meals prepared and were willing to offer any special snacks you provide if requested. The staff is caring, kind and actually enjoy their job, which is a very difficult one to say the least. If any issue should arise they are quick to communicate with you in an attempt to work with your family to do what is best for your loved one; and they make themselves available to you should you have any questions or issues that need addressing. Visitors are welcome anytime unannounced.
I am updating my review to reflect May-Oct 2023. My father spent his last months here, the staff was amazing, they took care of everything, most importantly my father was happy there. They brought in Hospice of the Chesapeake as his condition progressed. They were in tune to every change that was taking place and a protocol was set into motion. His diet, cleanliness, happiness, medications, his comfort, pain management... He was treated with love and dignity by the staff. I would not have been able to navigate all of this on my own. I am forever grateful to the staff for everything they did. Review May 2023:Very impressed. The staff is outgoing and kind. They keep me up to date on what is going on, they have facilitated additional care for for my father. The facility is clean. I am very happy with the level of care (and my father is a handful). He is definitely doing better then when he arrived.
