Arbor Hills has been the perfect Memory Care home for my Mom and Dad. They share a spacious room with large windows that have a beautiful outdoor view. Arbor Hills has a wonderful backyard with an outdoor space which is available for them to sit anytime and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. The Staff -Nurses and Caregivers have been wonderful and caring. ALL are working to provide Mom and Dad good care support as their Dementia progresses. The overnight monitoring with motion sensors is so great in case one of them gets up in the night. It provides safety for them and peace of mind for us kids. The chef immediately asked them and us their likes and dislikes. He’s absolutely wonderful and the food is terrific. The laundry staff are doing Mom and Dad’s laundry daily, so Mom and Dad’s room is always fresh. The caregivers make their bed and pick up so it is always ready for visitors. Arbor Hill’s Director, with the help of their maintenance staff, allowed us to decorate Mom and Dad’s room with their things from home. On Day 1 my Dad said , this feels like home. Arbor Hills Memory Care offers an exceptional environment for individuals with memory challenges. The facility is beautifully maintained, providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Staff members are friendly, highly skilled, compassionate, and dedicated to ensuring the well-being of each resident. They offer personalized care plans and engage residents in meaningful activities tailored to their interests and abilities. The focus on creating a supportive and enriching environment truly stands out in this nurturing environment.
When we first moved our family member to Arbor Hills, she received adequate care. However, over time the facility added more residents but were not able to add more caregivers or other staff. The result was that no one was available to help our family member go to the bathroom on a regular basis (she’s wheelchair bound) and so she would sit in her wet and dirty diapers all day long. This was particularly a problem on the weekends when there were only two caregivers for 35 residents. The facility also had issues keeping staff to clean residents’ rooms and common areas. For example, in a 9-month time period, our family member’s bed sheets were changed only five times. Also, the common shower room was not cleaned between showers, so it was very common to have feces left all over the shower, and piles of dirty clothes all over the floor. Management did not seem to care and would sit in their offices behind closed doors with little interaction with the residents. The caregivers were loving, and did what they could, but there is no way for a caregiver to be expected to take care of so many residents. We were able to observe the decline in care through frequent visits, and we had three cameras in our family member’s room. Given the lack of care, we ended up moving her to another memory care home. There were at least seven other residents that moved out at the same time. Not to mention they lost her dentures twice and then told me “ they are personal items and she is not to have any personal items up there” that I should take them home after my visit.
The staff and caregivers are amazing at Arbor Hills in Plano. They are well trained and truly practice the Care models and techniques to make everyday a wonderful experience for both my mom and dad experiencing memory issues. When the caregivers are assisting my parents, they are very engaging and speak directly to them in a calm tone, so they don’t feel rushed or confused. The activities are well thought out, fun and include physical activities and exercise for those that are wheelchair bound also. The building is laid out so the residents can stroll in comfort and take in the historical displays to re-live memories, or just relax in the common areas to enjoy some great music. Mom loves the salon services for the occasional hair style and shampoo, or just having her nails done. They both enjoy going to the dining room for meals and engaging with friends. The food is great, and they love the warm towels to wash up before each meal. It's been a real comfort working the all the staff at Arbor Hills, in addition knowing there is also a licensed nurse on duty 24/7 when needed. A wonderful community and experience for both my loved ones.
In a time of transition that has been so difficult for our family, Arbor Hills and the amazing staff there have been a Godsend! The caring way they treat the residents is just amazing. The facility itself is nice and welcoming, clean, updated and always maintained. The food is great and my dad is well taken care of! They go above and beyond to help the residents and their families! Thank you so much to ALL of you at Arbor Hills!
