Please read these reviews before you commit to putting your loved one here. If I could give *0* stars I would!! My mother was treated very poorly in this place. I was there around the clock and they still mistreated my mother. She was there for therapy and had lost a lot of weight from being in the hospital. We had to speak to the nurses daily to remind them to give her a nutrition shake that was supposed to be ordered. I felt like I had to do the nurses job and the Dr’s job it was a constant battle . She missed almost all her therapy visits because she was given medication without food or nausea medication. My mother laid in the bed multiple times for several hours after pulling the light to use the bathroom. The Dr that rounds on these patients is the Hospitalist at Silver Cross and is just as bad as the facility owners. Her last day there I spoke with the Dr. told him she’s acting very confused which was not normal, she was weak, couldn’t stand, walk or use the bathroom on her own. The Dr. ensured he would keep her and do more testing instead he lied to my face and signed the discharge papers. I had to hunt the DON down and demand more test that ultimately lead to her being hospitalized! This place looks nice from the pictures but I AM WARNING YOU DO NOT send your loved ones to this place!!!

Giving 1 star is more than I would like to give. Let's just say I am sorry I put my mother in this facility for 3 weeks for therapy. I'm not sure where to even start with the horrible care and lack of compassion my mother received. It looked like a beautiful place when my sister and I toured the facility, but the care is just horrible! My mother was not able to walk to the bathroom alone. When she pulled the light at night, the aid let her wait 3 hours before coming into the room to take her to the bathroom. Being on diuretic and waiting hours while soaked in urine(with a bed sore). When the aid finally came in, my mother was treated very cold because apparently, she was bothering her. Also, the aid smelled like she had just smoked a bag of weed and was breathing in my mother's face. I asked to talk to a supervisor the next morning, and there was no call or follow-up on this from anyone. The next night, it happened again 2 hours to acknowledge the call light. The nurse was giving her medication at 5:30 am. on an empty stomach, and then PT/OT would come in for her therapy early about 8:00am. before she could even eat breakfast. Medication on an empty stomach made her so nauseous that she could not eat or get out of bed. After asking the nurse several times for several days to please give her medication after breakfast, they did, but she missed days of therapy. When they came into the room for therapy and she was unable to participate, it was being documented that she had therapy. There are so many things wrong about this place. I would never recommend it to anyone! Within the 1st 5 days of being there, her room was moved 2x, the 3rd time they were going to move her we refused and told them we would find a different facility for her care if she was moved again. I could go on and on. I also want to add that my mother weighed 62lbs, and it was very important that she ate anything we could possibly get down her. They would take her tray before she could even eat. Therapy is only 3wks, in order to stay past that duration, whether you are able to walk or not, the process must be appealed. I appealed 2x and was denied unless my mother agreed to sign over her assets and pay out of pocket. On her last day that Medicare would pay, she was admitted back to the hospital because the physician at Alden signed the discharge papers and said she did not need extended therapy. Unreal!
Interesting that my last review was deleted. I am begging each and every one of you who are considering putting your loved one here, DO NOT! My Father went in here for what was supposed to be short term rehab care for 2 broken shoulders. His shoulders DID NOT require surgery. My family and I witnessed the nursing and CNA staff making my Father support himself with 2 broken shoulders and rolling him over on his side aggressively. They were annoyed he needed a 2 person transfer to the bathroom so they put my 64 year old ACTIVE HEALTHY Father in DIAPERS!!! He said one of the CNA's actually threw the urinal at him. We would come in to visit and he would be hanging off the bed begging for help. When we decided to pull him out of Alden he had a cat scan done and his shoulder that DID NOT require surgery was now completely shattered and required a full shoulder replacement. My Father never woke up from that surgery and I believe with everything in me that this facility is responsible for the DEATH of my Father.
1 star is far too generous for this facility. Do not send your loved one here under any circumstance, unless you don't care about their well being. The whole staff is extremely unprofessional and rude. If you go up to the nursing station for help, they won't even put their cell phones down long enough to acknowledge you. Then they act like you are inconveniencing them. These people need to reconsider their lives and find jobs that do not involve customer service of any kind, since they clearly do not enjoy helping people. The staff felt the need to tell my 86 year old grandma how underpaid they were and short staffed. They tried to give my grandma medication for a health condition that she doesn't even have then tried to argue her on her own health conditions. A nurse told my grandma she would "be right back" to get her order for her meal, 2 hours later and the nurse never came back. The nurses are in such a hurry that one even cut my grandma's leg while helping her use the bathroom. Every time my grandma would ring the bell to use the bathroom, it would take up to 3 hours for the nurse to help. She was sent here for physical therapy after being in the hospital for 2 months and did not get any physical therapy at all. The most physical therapy she would get is rolling her ankle in a circle while sitting in her wheelchair. If we would have known my grandma would be spending the last weeks of her life being miserable, depressed, and treated poorly, we would have never sent her here. PLEASE read all the reviews before sending your loved one here because all of the 1 star reviews are 100% honest.
My husband spent 2 months at Alden for short term rehab following a knee/leg surgery in which he was in a full leg cast. Our expectations were greatly exceeded for the care he received. ALL the staff were kind, friendly, and always showed up with a smile and greeting every day. He received excellent PT/OT care daily to help transition him to eventually coming home. The facility is clean, quiet, safe, and easily accessible located in a great neighborhood. We are not from the area and we were very apprehensive going into this to leave him there being it was our first time using a nursing/rehab facility. Not once did I worry about his care while I was not there. Jenny in admissions was great to work with. My husband had great lively conversations with all the nurses , CNA's, food staff and housekeeping on the 2nd floor. I would absolutely not hesitate in recommending this facility for a short term rehab stay if needed. It is what you make of it, when you are in these circumstances, and we felt our important needs were met. They truly have some hard workers there!
