My father was placed on the first-floor memory care unit at the end of June 2024; after a week into his stay, they put him on a psychiatric hold and sent him to the ER for being aggressive (most new dementia patients are), but he never recovered. After being sent to the hospital, he was never the same, and after three more hospital visits, he passed away the first week of August. In addition, when he was sent for the first time to the hospital, the psychiatrist at Adara wrote a report with incorrect information that was given to the ER. The misinformation led to no communication in the hospital since ADARA’s Psychiatrist said we kids ‘dropped him off at Adara and have not been heard of.’ In the ER, my father was drugged beyond repair, and I believe the misinformation from Adara’s psychiatrist led to his poor treatment. The incorrect information also said we both lived in Florida, which neither of us did, and also said his room was bare, and no mementos were there. We spent hours buying and decorating his room with pictures and everything we could fit from his home. The psychiatrist never reached out to apologize, and no good excuse was given. I never thought I would be paying for my father’s funeral after putting him in Adara two months prior.
My grandpa spent his last days here, and my entire family is happy with the way it went. The facility itself may be a little dated, but all the interactions between the staff, patients, and family members made the experience the best it could possibly be. The staff went out of their way to make sure we were taken care of with offers of beverages and kind conversations, including the night we had to come in late at night. Watching the staff with my grandpa and other patients made me believe that they truly care about each patient and go out of their way to make them comfortable. Even the hospice nurse made comments about the liveliness of the atmosphere compared to many of the other homes he has seen.
Think twice if you are looking for a facility for a loved one. My parents have been here almost a year. In the beginning care was wonderful. This has changed drastically in the past 6 months. Most of the week day staff is great but the weekend and night staff is horrible. Very unprofessional and uncaring!!
This facility has zero accountability. There weekend care is awful. Many items lost from my family members room never to show up again. No follow up responses from email complaints, management complaints, or even phone messages left for help. if someone finally calls or responds it is days up to a week later. I would never recommend anyone taking there loved ones to this facility. The facility may look good, but looks can be deceiving as is this place. Sadly my family member is in a situation where they are stuck there. If it is a problem because of under staffing why should any resident suffer, or be neglected. if that is the case let the family member know. Hey we are currently understaffed we are doing the best we can.. There are a few staff members( aids) who are awesome, but too few. After many months of hope that things will get better and trying to stay positive, it is clear at this point that no matter what, things are never going to get any better and my heart breaks for my family member stuck there and all the other residence living there...
