Feb 27-Mar 11 I have written this review several times because I am so angry at the treatment my sister received from the Administration while at Waverly. My sister had a 13 day stay for respite care while her home was being readied for sale. She had spoken to the Administration on a few occasions prior to her stay and had a 2 hour assessment at Waverly the Monday before she arrived on Thursday. My sister has Primary Progressive MS. She has lost the use of her left arm, it has affected her speech and walking is very difficult. Walking on carpet makes it more difficult and dangerous. She would need help toileting, getting dressed/undressed, getting in/out of bed and having a shower. She also required a room with no carpeting, a recliner chair to help combat the edema in her lower legs and feet. The Administration guaranteed her medical needs could be met, no problem. I want to be clear, the assistance she received from the Nurse and the PSW’s was very good. The first room they put her in had carpeting, a recliner chair and TV. The recliner chair and TV broke the next day. The Administrator promised a new room and recliner. The new room came on Monday, my sister arrived Thursday. On Monday, we moved her into the room. The room had no carpet and a bucket chair! Still no recliner after 5 days. On the 6th day, we moved her recliner from home. The Administrator came to her room on the 6th day after we had already moved her own recliner to let her know a recliner had been ordered. My sister very politely commented on the lack of follow through from Waverly on meeting her medical needs. The Administrator responded with “ this is not a hotel”. Rude, unprofessional and uncalled for. My sister never received an apology. Waverly is dirty, hot and in desperate need of updating. My sister was on the 3rd floor. I took the stairs up daily and I can guarantee the stairwells were not vacuumed in 13 days. The same dirt and debris was there everyday. A mattress being stored in the stairwell did not move for 13 days. Metal bars from a bed were laid over a decorative chair in the hallway on the 3rd floor for 13 days. Broken down cardboard boxes, trolleys, blue boxes, garbage carts were all stored in the 1st floor stairwell for 13 days. For the amount of money the residents are charged, they deserve better than this. The only redeeming quality about Waverley are PSW’s.

The writer has family living at Waverley for a few years. While it is agreed that it is indeed a stately historic building, it is in dire need of attention and updating, if not upgrading that are both long overdue. Individual residents have reported thefts/missing items of their personal property. There is a "ramp" at the back entrance way for those in wheelchairs, but it is made of wood and not stained wood, it's turned gray and appears neglected and weather-beaten. It is also difficult to push someone in a chair up and down the ramp because of the bumpy old wood. I suppose a cement ramp might be too expensive for the owner's small budget allotted to improvements to this property. Profits are more appealing. The deck/sitting area attached to the ramp is an eyesore and is so narrow that there' only room for 5 or 6 chairs. It's made of the same old drab, gray wood. And if the paying aging population would like to sit further away there is an unappealing deck that stands alone at the rear end of the parking lot, hardly a picturesque sight or view, and it offers no aesthetic appeal whatsoever. The tea room is done up in draperies, cushions and upholstery that appears to be at least 50 years old or more and is out of style, faded, and neglected. It needs to be refreshed and updated. Goodness only knows how many dust mites are harvesting eggs inside of those fabrics and cushions, not to mention the old faded pink window treatments. While most staff are "nice" there is a massive turnover; no one stays very long and neither do managers. Staff are not well paid here and they are tremendously overworked. There have been 3 changes in more recent times and it's a pattern with this establishment. They don't offer much in the way of activities, fitness, or entertainment because there simply isn't the space to offer more to this generation of seniors who contributed so VERY much to society. They pay high costs for the "privilege" of living there and get so very little in return. Most rooms are tiny, cramped, and not well appointed. Waverley is not what it appears to be on the face of it. Look deeper, look longer and you'll find the hidden issues. This place is about profits that go straight into the owner's pocket, it's not about the health and well-being of the residents. We are entitled to our voices and opinions.
As a family member of an elderly resident, I am pleased with the facilities for the most part. All staff are friendly and caring. Building maintenance requests however, are dealt with very slowly it seems. ie: interior window trim has not been replaced where new windows were installed almost a year ago. Another example: The carpet runner on the main staircase in the Mansion is frayed on the lead edge of the stairs in some spots. It has been "patched" with what looks like clear packing tape, which could be a hazard. Residents, visitors and staff use these stairs. There is definitely a potential for someone to have a heel catch on the frayed stair covering. A proper replacement or repair needs to be done before someone gets hurt.
Such an impressively stately facility, I enjoyed my concert in your lovely dining room. 'Jimmy's Old Time Radio Show'
Would love if they cut the lawn, it’s an eye soar on the neighborhood.
