My mother moved into Shaftesbury in the summer of 2024. The services provided by Shaftesbury and its overall environment have significantly enhanced her quality of life. We could not be more pleased with the entire experience. I wholeheartedly recommend Shaftesbury to any family seeking a special place for their loved ones. I am retired and do not live locally. With her living alone and without family nearby to check on her, I was constantly worried about her safety, her nutrition, and her isolation. Shaftesbury has eliminated all these concerns. They provide a secure environment where residents can flourish. They check on residents daily, offer a dining room with delicious, nutritious meals, and organize a variety of activities for the residents. They arrange regular bus trips for shopping, banking, other errands, and can even provide transportation for her medical appointments. Every staff member we have encountered is friendly and demonstrates genuine concern for the residents. This caring attitude is evident daily in their warm smiles and kind interactions with every resident. If you are at a stage in life where you are considering residential senior living for yourself or a family member, it would be difficult to find a better option than Shaftesbury.

It has been a little over five years since my wife, Charlene, and I moved into the Shaftesbury Park Retirement Residence. I had visited six possible residences before we chose Shaftesbury. We have been very pleased with our decision. The staff, the programs and the meals are all very satisfactory. Obviously in five years our health has deteriorated somewhat. Last year Charlene applied to WRHA for home care. We joined the Self/family Managed Care Program approved by WRHA but run by Shaftesbury. It is absolutely first rate. The staff are competent, empathetic and pleasant. Furthermore, Charmaine, the coordinator, is very flexible in providing respite for me. She is willing to adjust the respite according to my needs as long as I stay within the approved hours. Old age presents many challenges. We feel very privileged to have such high quality care in these remaining years of our lives.
My family member has lived here for a long time, building and facility are aesthetically nice I will say that. Food is mediocre at very best but I’m sure that’s the case with all these kinds of homes. Definitively overpriced and at times understaffed, management is also not the best. A while ago they decided to give away my grandmothers reserved parking spot of 7 years to another resident because “she doesn’t drive”. Absolutely ridiculous as it’s literally included in the Contract she signed and now we have to look to find parking most times. Not to mention the other person who now parks there virtually never moves they’re car.
This review is long overview! My dad moved into Shaftesbury Park on February 15, 2022. Right from our first visit, I knew this would be the perfect place for my dad. My dad was in the hospital so doing his visit via FaceTime, and Cheryl was careful to make him the focus of the meeting, addressing him directly and answering all of his questions. When he moved in, Nurse Jennifer came to meet him and that was the beginning of her “above and beyond care” for my father and our family. Unfortunately, my dad only lived there for 9 days before two consecutive falls took him back to the hospital for two months. When he got out, his condition had declined to the point that he had to go into a PCH. Sadly, he only lived at the PCH for seven days when he suddenly passed away, but he never stopped talking about wanting to get back to his suite at Shaftesbury Park. I wish we could have talked him into moving there earlier…I think he would have been much happier and healthier and stronger if he had moved there sooner. Thank you to everyone we came into contact with during our short time with Shaftesbury Park.
My mother moved to the Shaftesbury Park Retirement Residence about five years ago and is in The Boulevard section as she had slight dementia. As her dementia and needs have increased over the years, our family are kept constantly informed and her Care-plan is adjusted. My Mom is treated with the utmost compassion, dignity and love by all the staff. The environment is always warm and everyone is friendly. There are constant activities and although my Mom is not really able to participate in the activities, she is always included and made to feel welcome. We are so grateful for the wonderful care and love she is receiving on a daily basis at this time of her life.
