Our mother had more than seven happy years of her life at New Horizons Tower before passing away in August. We have only good things to say about the facilities, programs and, particularly, the compassionate and attentive care she received from staff. As she came to be in her last months and days on the memory care floor (the Oasis), the staff made sure that we also received that same compassion. These are people who are both trained and inclined to meet the needs of residents (and family) no matter where and how they are. We have no hesitation in recommending New Horizons to others.

Our mother moved in a couple of years ago from St. Hilda's Towers after they closed for renovations and discontinued their care residence. New Horizons has turned out to be an amazing place for our mom. She's on the 3rd floor "memory residents" where she gets friendly and attentive care. The staff are absolutely amazing! They have our mother dressed nicely and always looking her best. They engage her in her favourite game (Scrabble) which she still wins regularly! New Horizons in super-clean, well organized, and always cheerful. We're very lucky our mother is so happy there.
We are sad to be out of the NHT community. My mom was loved and well cared for there, but after a fall and concussion, she was no longer able to return to her independent living apartment and unfortunately there were no spot on the Oasis floor when we needed one. Once we knew that a move was imminent, we began gently prepping her during the end of her hospital stay that she would be going to her new home (we needed to spring her from the hospital ASAP) so by the time the move happened she was expecting not to be returning to NHT and her beloved "place". The number of times she said she wanted "my place" while in hospital is a tribute to how well-settled she became at NHT. She has a beautiful new space on the Memory Care Floor of another great facility in Mississauga, and we lucked out with a unit large enough to still have most of her furniture from NHT as well. The programming there is specific to residents with Alzheimer's/Dementia/other cognitive challenges and it has been great for her. NHT has great programming for their independent living residents, which she would have loved 5-10 years ago, but she wasn't able to participate at this stage of her disease, and that left her with only (very!) frequent walks as daily stimulation. That was an adjustment for sure. The fact that she was no longer able to leave at will was challenging at first, but she adjusted and and has visitors who have take her out for walks quite frequently. Robin from NHT was lovely enough to check in with us a few weeks after moving out of NHT to see how my mom was doing, which is an illustration of the care that she received while she lived there. Thanks again to Robin and all the staff at NHT. You were HOME to my mom for the past two years.
We are so glad that our mother had the good fortune to live at New Horizons Tower for 8 years. The care she received was kind, compassionate and attentive throughout the time that she lived there, which included the pandemic. Everyone was exemplary and fulfilled their responsibilities with care and thoughtfulness. It was a true home for our mother and a blessing for which we are all grateful. I highly recommend this retirement residence without hesitation.
