Can I just thank all the staff who arranged for afternoon tea to be served when my father's brother travelled from Edinburgh today to see him. (Stan). The afternoon tea itself was fabulous and cakes were soft and fluffy. Very professional and everyone commented on how nice everything was. The table was set with the best china Very pretty indeed. This was better than "Betty's"! My father had a lovely afternoon. Thank you all at Manorhay for arranging this tea. As usual nothing is too much trouble for the staff who always do everything possible to make residents happy. Please accept our heartfelt thanks. Corinne (Stans daughter)

My mother was recently discharged from hospital to be assessed at Manorhey Care Home. As a family the thought of her going into a home filled us with dread after reading so much negative publicity about the care home sector over the years. Suffice to say we were ultimately very relieved that Manorhey Care Home was the opposite of all the negative press. From the first interactions with staff at Manorhey we were greeted by warm and caring staff who were exactly the sort of people you would want to care for your loved ones. They demonstrated just the sort of patience, listening and communication skills needed by their residents. For example didn’t come across anyone who was disinterested in what they were doing as I had imagined I might. Several of the staff formed particularly positive relationships with my mother and she appeared to really enjoy those interactions. Getting her to smile and have a joke meant a lot to us during this time. To our very pleasant surprise one of the staff prompted us to allow our mother to be taken out for the day to a concert, after successfully identifying her interest in music through getting to know her. Getting to know a patient and their interests is an important role in providing a high standard of care, but it also shows initiative and follow through to enable the day to happen. On top of this there were other examples of responsiveness to my mum's specific interests and needs, such as watching a certain programme on iPlayer, and helping her get out in the garden safely on sunny days. What I witnessed on my frequent visits to Manorhey has really opened my eyes to the positive impact high quality care can have on the lives of its residents and I was really glad my mother benefited from such a caring environment.
Mum had great care while she was in Manorhey but the meals were disgusting, worse than school dinners, which is appalling when you're trying to get an old person to eat
I had to provisionally book a place for respite for my mother in law . The only thing was i couldn’t give actual dates because it all depended on whether she was being discharged from the hospital. Joanne couldn’t have been any kinder or more helpful if she could of .She was so helpful, sympathetic ,kind and understanding.. In the end i could not take up Joannes kind offer as the hospital were not discharging my mother in law . I would not think twice about using this care home and know the care would be 2nd to none . Thank you Joanne.
Cant judge a book by its cover...if your loved one lacks capacity avoid this place especially the EMI unit even the staff here dont want to work on it. Heartbreaking. It very much a posh prison. Dont beleive the promises they tell you to get you to accept a placement. My father was dragged out of bed every day if he wanted to or not. He was never taken out anywhere. He was neglected. He was ignored and rather than take him to the toilet they put pads on him and very often he was left sitting in his own mess for long periods. He had capacity to ask. The management stick together especially in the face of criticism. The manageress is manipulative and cold. This is very much a "business" not a care home. I was taken in..i hope no-one else is.
