We made the difficult decision to place mum in to care due to her dementia. This was extremely difficult having come from a care background. Whilst there was teething problems to start with, improvements have been made and now my mum is settled, happy and feels safe. She doesn’t ask to come home, and has a smile on her face majority of the time. The food here is fantastic with a wide selection on offer. All care staff are friendly, lot of activities and outings offered for the more able.

Second time my Uncle has stayed at Heathfields, the first time I was false to complain, after they shaved my uncles head, he came home after his 3 week stay with bed sores was dirty and smelly. His Catheter night bag had not been changed for 3 weeks and was dated from the day he arrived. I had a meeting with Management and showed them photographic evidence of the date on Catheter bag, also the poor state in which my uncle was in after the 3 week stay. The Manager assured me that steps would be taken to improve and that all staff would be Catheter trained due to the poor hygiene that my Uncle had experienced his urine was dark/ strong and he had a UTI from lack of fluids. I phoned Heathfields and spoke to the Manager one week before his recent return who assured me that lessons had been learned from his last visit, and that all of the staff had since been trained in Catheter care after our conversation I felt that Heathfields had improved and agreed for my uncle to have a one week stay to give me a rest as I have recently suffered a minor heart attack which I explained to Manager. My uncle went into Heathfields on Tuesday 16th 2024, on Wednesday 17th I received a phone call from Heathfields saying that my uncle had eaten Two Sand Balls and that they had spoken to his GP to make sure that it was nothing Toxic. On Saturday 20th I had a phone call to say my Uncle had been Sick and they had phoned an Ambulance which I was not happy about as I had already said if there was any problems to ring me first and that I did not want him taken to hospital unless it was a emergency! I spoke to the under Manager who was at home( No Management at the home over the weekend period) and asked how much fluids my uncle had been given as I had instructed them that he must drink at least 3 jugs of clear fluids per day plus tea, she informed me that he had been given 600mls which is approximately 3 small mugs! I told her that he had not been given anywhere near enough fluids and that would be the reason for his sickness, she didn’t know if he had eaten during the day only that he had a slice of toast at breakfast? My uncle was taken to William Harvey Hospital he was in his pjs had no coat or slippers on he was shivering under one blanket on arrival. My uncle was given water on arrival to drink he was not sick and was in NO pain Doctor took bloods all test came back free of infection he was suffering from Dehydration, his bladder was completely empty when scanned, he was give fluids through IV plus encouraged to drink and released home after 5hrs, Heathfields’s had neglected to give my uncle fluids during that 4 day period I did not return him to Heathfields care, and spoke to the under manageress the next morning who said what can I say! I’m sorry, she then went on to ask when I would like to collect his belongings.
After making a very difficult decision to put my father into a home I now realise I made the right decision. He's put weight on, made friends, safe and is so happy, which is a huge weight off my mind. The staff are so friendly and helpful, well organised and the deputy manager always has time to talk to me. First class !
This home is exceptional, the care is not only for residence but also for the family, the staff cater for our needs but also my mother's, me and my wife have noticed considerable changes in her since manging to find her a bed after many failed attempts at other homes. We would highly recommend this home and staff it has made our family life so much more comfortable. Thank you heathfield x
The manager sets a high standard of care in the home. Staff are very caring and supportive towards the residents and family. Lovely clean rooms and the residents enjoy the activities that the manager organises. Would defiantly recommend this home.
