Gainsborough Hall is just as a care home should be; caring. This starts with Pam who manages the home brilliantly. The staff are down-to-earth, supportive, approachable, and really do seem to care about the residents and respect their individual needs. Gainsborough Hall is very clean, spacious and more like a hotel than a care home. The en-suite rooms are beautiful and airy, the food is good and plentiful, and there are always activities for the residents to join in. The location is also great; close to parks, shops, cafes, pubs, restaurants and only a 15 minute walk from the train station. Visitors are always welcomed with a smile, and can enjoy a coffee with the residents in the lovely reception area (which is big enough to maneuver a wheelchair). We visited a number of care homes before choosing Gainsborough Hall, and feel very pleased and confident we made the right decision.

My father has just completed a two week 'respite' stay at Gainsborough Hall to give his carer a break. He has dementia and requires nursing care. Beforehand, I was concerned as to how he would settle in and whether he would be anxious. I need not have worried. He settled in very quickly and felt safe and comfortable throughout. The staff were attentive and caring. I visited every day and consistently saw the attention being given to my father and all other residents. I also noted the attention being given to other visitors who aften need reassurance as well! The staff were always friendly and quickly picked up my father's particular needs regarding routine and medication. I understand that there has been a significant change in management and staff which seems to have made a genuinely positive impact on confidence and morale. I have no hesitation in having my father stay at Gainsborough Hall again later in the year.
Very very poor communication and management with procedures not being followed. We were unable to contact our father on many occasions including a 5 day period over Christmas where the phone was either left ringing out or no staff available. The phone ringing out was a common occurence. As he was in end of life care this was very distressing. Due to our worries and despite his condition we were planning to move him and were thwarted by lockdown.Emails were left unanswered and at one stage we were told by the manager they were to busy to answer the phone and to wait for staff to call us with an update. This rarely happened. Very little covid security on his floor when we said our goodbyes and only one member of staff . When our father passed away he was no longer wearing his rings and they have not been located to date. This is a very clear example of a beautiful facility that was under staffed and badly managed. We understand there is now new management but this is to late for our family.Covid has been very difficult for care homes but this cannot constantly be used as an excuse.
Great place for the elderly and the care assistants are really lovely people. They also have invocations like a mobile app tailored to ever person under care.
Poor communication. Staff not aware of basic feeding needs of my father.
