Be aware this place is not a honest company. They do not listen to the wishes of cognative residents. Put your loved one anywhere else, not here! They are manipulative. They were caught over charging for rent and mismanaging govt funds. We caught on and started questioning everything. We were cut off any all our moms financial information for trust fund at the home yet they still expected us to put money in the trust fund. My mom never received any information on where her money went they Wouldn't tell us where or how it was being spent even with our moms consent they still refused. They denied all her wishes after they had to pay her back. Refused to give receipts to her or us. After being caught they refused any info to us without power of attorney papers disregarding and going agaianst all my moms wishes requests. Its a terrible terrible care home they cant be trusted. We learnt the hard way. At this home the residents are not allowed to Pay for anything with money cash or their own bank card to get a proper reciept. Ask many questions before deciding on a home for a loved one. Its so important. There are some really good ones. Interview them first we didn't. When she got in this home. So much regret. They took all her independence away. Even the right to use her own bank card and get a receipt for anything. She is on a list to be moved and we interviewed 4 homes picked 1 we really liked. The staff at the other home she is going to even helped us with the paper work for the transfer because this home was not responding to our emails for the request of the paper work.

My mother lived at Brookside Lodge for several years and I cannot thank the staff enough for all the love and care given to her. Staff were not only great but wonderful and always treated my mother with care and love all the time which is something I will always treasure. For people considering this care facility for loved ones, you are in for a fantastic experience and personnel. My mother passed away peacefully on a place that she considered home and I will always be appreciative and thankful to each one of the people there. God bless all the staff. Thanks Brookside Lodge.
The care provided by a select few of the staff was excellent. As for most of the staff it was clear it was a job and putting any extra effort into being compassionate was hard to see. The parking is a joke, the lovely courtyard that we were told was there was not accessible because the gate code was broken and never fixed. The receptionist at the front desk was not approachable. Very cold and clearly did not want to be interrupted from her work. Good luck trying to find anyone to help you during a shift change. I could take my mom out of that building any time I pleased and no one would even know she was gone. I feel like if I had to put my mom in long term care again, this would definitely not be my choice of places. Very much an institution.
This review being my personal opinion has been a long time coming. I needed to be able to process the loss of our Mom first. A care home should not be a FOR PROFIT run business. If you need to place your loved one into care - I can't stress enough that YOU MUST be a frequent and investigative visitor. Physically look them over for signs of neglect. There comes a time when they can no longer communicate for themselves and they will rely on you to be their advocate. I have to agree with Cindy Mason's review that the care by a select few of the staff was excellent. Having said that - the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Our Mom suffered with bed sores for over 9 months - which were completely preventable if staff had done their jobs and were held accountable to follow health protocols. It wasn't until we made 'written' complaints to the executive staff, and lodged a formal complaint with Frazer Health - did proper care get taken and they finally healed up - JUST IN TIME FOR HER TO DIE! Brookside used to be a fabulous place with the most amazing and dedicated staff, and wonderful foods.......then Sienna took over and turned it into a sterile institution, it went all the way down hill from there. Sienna took away all the small things that gave the comfort of home - the common areas suffered the most - side tables comfy seating, couches, curio cabinets (valuable contents were not mentioned, nor returned to residents - but were loaded into a staff member's car and hauled away), carpeting was ripped out and replaced with poorly laid laminate. Then they went after the meals to save even more costs. The menu is now an absolute disgrace....processed garbage with little to no nutritional value. We observed that as our Mom's level of care needs increased - the lazier the staff became. Parking residents in front of a TV or a window, and disappearing, not spending time engaging residents, not keeping them personally clean, not changing clothing and doing the laundry, etc. Again I stress that not all staff were remiss, but enough that the results of neglect was apparent to us, hence the formation of bed sores. Our Mom was one of the very first residents at Brookside when it first opened, so what really hurt and solidified my opinion of their lack of compassion and caring was that the executive staff never even gave condolences - not until almost three weeks after her passing, and actually not until I called them out on it. The immediate hands on staff, LPNs, RNs, did though, they took time our of their days to phone. We are still waiting for the social worker to call us - as we had been told the night our Mom died that she would. They should be ashamed of themselves. Please, please don't place you loved one here, unless you are able to visit at least twice a week to ensure they are being respected, engaged, and properly cared for. Don't be intimidated by staff to be quiet about wrongs you witness!
MIL had a CPR2 and they just watched her choke to death. They didn't do backblows they didn't try to save her. She was not supposed to eat alone (they said she signed off on it) How could she sign off when she was deemed cognitively incompetent? Found out later WE had the option to have coroner investigate. THEY told us coroner would not respond at the time. TLDR in my opinion. YOUR BELOVED SENIORS ARE NOT SAFE HERE!!!
