I have been visiting Cumberland Grange Care Home in the capacity of Story Teller on the Dementia Wing. There is such a lovely calm atmosphere and the residents are generally all content. They can listen to the stories sitting comfortably or they can choose to walk around. Sometimes they even wander off. Often they will chat to me during the stories. The staff are lovely, caring and well trained. It is my favourite morning of the week!

I have visited Cumberland Grange on a few occasions now and I have to say what an absolutely fabulous place this is. The staff are just simply amazing and cannot do enough to help both residents and visitors, nothing is too much trouble for them. They also have a very comprehensive activities schedule, the residents are certainly not short of things to do, they actually have a busier social schedule than I do! You only have to see how happy and comfortable the residents to know you won’t go wrong in placing your loved ones here. I for one wouldn’t hesitate in recommending Cumberland Grange. Well done team ❤️
My Mum stayed at Cumberland Grange for a week's respite, while I went into hospital for surgery. I had researched carefully to find a place that was caring, friendly and would meet her needs. My first contact with Cumberland Grange was great - the lady on the phone was very friendly and helpful and I arranged a visit. When I visited I was very impressed with the facilities, how kind the staff were with the residents and how calm the atmosphere was. It was a very pleasant experience. Mum absolutely loved her stay there, she commented how lovely and kind everyone was and how she’d been very well looked after. She made a special comment about how great the food was, and she was encouraged to join in the activities that were happening each day if she wanted to. It was a relief to me that Mum was somewhere getting appropriate care in a lovely environment. When she returned home she was happy, mobilising much better than she had been previously and was full of praise for Cumberland Grange. I'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone there for making Mum so welcome and doing everything they did to accommodate her at what was very short notice. You are all fantastic!
My mother has Complex Dementia and Complex Personality Disorder. She has been at Cumberland Grange for a year initially for 3 weeks respite and then as a permanent resident. I have the highest praise for Cumberland Grange, both the 5 star luxury accommodation and the astonishing activities but what impressed us most from the first time we walked through the door and every subsequent encounter, is how genuinely caring every single member of staff is. In fact I've just given a little "thank you" gift to each of the 58 members of staff to show them how much we appreciate them. Below is my contribution to my mother's most recent care review: "I am delighted with the care that XXX has received since moving to Cumberland Grange, both last Christmas during her three weeks of respite and since moving in permanently in March. Every single member of staff has impressed me with their positive spirit, caring heart and professional manner. I've worked in Health and Education for decades so I know how rare the staff at CG are and I know how valuable each person is in contributing to the overall experience of residents and their families. XXX honestly seems to be happier than she has ever been and that's not an easy achievement. I think a key part of that is that she feels she belongs in a way she never has before and that's the most important psychological need. Personally I have been amazed and thrilled by the way Cumberland Grange has taken the responsibility and associated stress of caring for XXX away from me. I've been able to heal from the stress this year and actually go further into my own healing with psychotherapy, and exploring my childhood and adult life with the knowledge of XXX's diagnoses. This has been life changing for me. I couldn't have done it without Cumberland Grange. I feel the final stage of this process has been my recent visits with XXX which have been a new dynamic for us. She hasn't displayed the negative behaviours that have characterised our interactions for the previous 49 years, which always left me feeling wounded and in need of recovery. I didn't dare hope this would be possible. I am more grateful for this than I can say. Thank you so much."
I have visited Cumberland Grange on a number of occasions over the last 12 moths or so in my professional capacity, and each time have been impressed by the level of care given to residents, and the overall level of professionalism of staff - not to mention the beautiful property and interiors. Having personal experience of care homes in the past with family members, I would not hesitate to have a family member become resident should the need arise. Well done to all at Barchester Cumberland Grange on the work you do.
