My mum has been in Bamfield for nearly 3 years. Most of the time she’s happy at Bamfield. Staff are friendly and helpful. Meals are wonderful and full of goodness for the residents. Chefs are excellent, and Bev is so wonderful with mum and other residents, A big asset to Bamfield on all levels. Also residents can order anything if they don’t fancy the menu. They do seem to be short staffed at times, which puts a strain on good carers. Entertainment is good when it happens but not consistent and weekends need to be covered as it gets boring for residents who don’t have visitors. Staff try to do various things but so busy will care and meds. There are many excellent carers, who go the extra mile for all. Included family. The Manager is aware and assures me she’s working on various improvements. Care books have been put in place, carers do need to read up on each residents needs and care packages as everyone (residents) are different. My mum is certainly cared for and has made many friends with other residents and carers. The garden is a real sun trap, but needs looking after to keep it looking nice. Lovely area that the residents enjoy if taken out. I am very lucky as my children do go in regularly so take mum outside into the garden when possible. The baths need to be sorted as mum loves a bath but only one working and not on mums floor. Bamfield are waiting on a second washing machine which is seriously needed as there seems to be a back up on washing. Has been in order for a while now though. The staff work very hard to keep residents happy , and I’m sure with more trained staff on board things will be 100 per cent. There is a Friendly and happy atmosphere most days and even better when entertainment takes place . I personally note the very hard working staff ( cannot name them) but are excellent roll models for others in Bamfield. And are certainly a majority not a minority.
My mother resided at this home for less than 5 months and passed away unexpectedly. A Coroners inquest has been opened due to her unnatural death. We received no condolences whatsoever from staff and despite my mother's personal belongings being stolen the senior management have offered no explanation and have refused to provide her care records or any explanation. A complaint was submitted 7 weeks ago and we still have received no response from Barchester. The home also took a further month of self funded care fees despite her death and nothing being outstanding. Unresponsive and totally unacceptable care home and I would not house a dog in. At such a time of loss and sadness the integrity and compassion being shown is truly shocking. These are peoples relatives and are treated in such an undignified way. Cameras should be brought in to homes as a legal minimum requirement because relatives have no comprehension of what goes on day to day. I would never personally reside in a care home setting after such a traumatic experience.
We all know about the issues that exist within the care industry, even the use of the word "care" is open to interpretation, especially by those who are supposedly in receipt of it. I have had a recent experience with Barchester, which led me to question the ethics of this business, which unsurprisingly, I found to be based on minimum standards and maximum profit. I won't go into detail on my review, as many of the points I could make have been reflected in the reviews left for Barchester. I would strongly suggest that anyone who is considering placing a relative or loved one, within a home run by Barchester especially Bamfield, to think twice, as below the very thin veneer lies an organisation who's motives are at the very least questionable. Management tell you what you want to hear before admission but when care is questioned they remain unhelpful, unprofessional and totally unresponsive.
The successful services and treatment you receive from the time you step inside is excellent. The care staff can seem a little over worked at times but they still manage to smile and greet everyone in a cheerful manner. This nursing facility has the best team that provides amazing care! I am very happy with my experiences here. Palliative care team was amazing, supportive and caring for us.
