My mother has lately become a resident at Sunhill Court. While she remains desperate to return to her own house and ‘freedom’, and no care home can offer that degree of familiarity and personal self-determination, nevertheless this home is very comfortable, with a hard working, kind and friendly staff, headed by an impressively committed manager. The environment is spacious, and while the armchairs are not set in that ‘traditional’ circle around the TV (there is a panoramic view from the spacious lounge) there are also activities organised at different times. Plus the garden is lovely, to which there is access throughout the summer, including the possibility of residents working with the gardener. Food is plentiful and the decor colourful. My mother’s bedroom was redecorated to her taste before she moved in (en-suite, including TV) and while it is tragic to say the least that she cannot safely remain in her own home, as the highly independent and self-sufficient woman she has always been, I feel happy, at least, that Sunhill offers her a base of warmth and respect, as well as the possibility of being joined by her cat. Even my very analytical and critical mother accepts that the place is ‘very nice’. Otherwise, I have open visiting access, while residents can be taken out and about, by relatives and friends, where sensible and safe. The manager, what’s more, makes herself available at all times, regarding any concerns. This is reassuring, as there are always worries and queries, however well organised and intentioned such a home might be.

Lovely place my grandad has been here since 2021. Since the new management took over they have been continually improving ensuring that all residents and families are comfortable. My grandad is looked after very well always looking clean and smart and more importantly he is very happy at the home. I would never put him somewhere he didn't want to be he was previously in two other care homes and was unable to settle untill he went to sunhill. I always made to feel welcome the food is great and the are always smiling and happy nothing is to much trouble for them.
My mum went into Sunhill towards the end of her life , she had advanced Alzheimer's. The staff are really great , I could visit any time I wanted, the food was excellent and tailored to each individual. They do specialise in dementia care which is one of the reasons we chose Sunhill . There is a good continuity of staff which is very good for dementia clients. For those clients who are still able to enjoy, there are beautiful views of Cissbury ring and a lovely garden.
My brother was here for a year until they gave razor blades to him, someone suffering from alcohol related dementia and depression. The picture below is two months on, I will never recover from what I saw he had done to his arm when I got to A&E, after a 6hr op by the plastics department he then returned to Sunhill, he was left in his nappy, tights etc from the op for two days and we had to clean him up. They then didn’t watch him take his antibiotics so another month in hospital, needless to say he isn’t at Sunhill now and I threw in the feet pic as one of the many incidents of neglect he faced here.
Very disappointed with this care home. Failed to provide sufficient care for my father, who ended up in hospital, narrowly avoiding death, multiple times following their negligence. Failure to assist him in basic daily hygiene, failure to ensure important medication was taken, failure to keep him safe. The consequences of their failures have had irreversible damage to him and our family.
