I recently had the opportunity to dine at Billionaires Resort in Malindi, a highly publicized and exclusive restaurant owned by Italian proprietors. While the establishment is set in one of Kenya’s most picturesque coastal locations, my experience was marred by multiple serious issues, both in service and overall ethos, which merit an honest review. Although the starters were well-prepared and enjoyable, the overall service left much to be desired. The wait time for the main course was unacceptably long, with my lobster—arguably the most expensive dish on the menu—arriving undercooked and unfit for consumption. It was promptly returned to the kitchen, but such an oversight on a signature item is indicative of poor quality control in the kitchen. Several others at my table had similar issues with their meals, which were either delayed, improperly prepared, or lacked the level of refinement one would expect at an establishment boasting a high standard for unacceptable service. The staff’s demeanor ranged from indifferent to outright arrogant. There was an evident lack of attentiveness or effort to address issues when they arose, making the entire dining experience frustrating. Despite our concerns, we were met with dismissive attitudes that conveyed a lack of accountability or basic hospitality. Upon settling the bill, it became apparent that the restaurant failed to deduct our deposit—a clear breach of professional service standards. This oversight, whether intentional or not, was unprofessional and created unnecessary tension. While the restaurant boasts a high-end clientele, the overwhelming presence of Italian nationals, both among the staff and the patrons, was glaring. This gave the impression that the establishment caters predominantly to a specific demographic, sidelining locals and other guests. My table was the only one without Italian nationals, which raises questions about the restaurant’s inclusivity and respect for its location in Kenya. Furthermore, the behavior of the staff and the overall atmosphere seemed to reflect an unspoken preference for Italian guests, perpetuating a sense of exclusion and lack of equity. This perception was further exacerbated by the condescending attitudes we experienced, which bordered on racial bias.

My stay at Billionaire Resort & Retreat in Mombasa was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment I arrived, I was immersed in an atmosphere of exclusivity and refined elegance. The resort, set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Indian Ocean, offered an impeccable blend of luxury, relaxation, and world-class service.
The resort was fully booked and never evwn felt crowded as it was Easter weekend. The staff were hospitable, I would wish more swahili coastarian food on the menu though.
Updated: You see the response below, BS, stay away nothing but unkept timeshare apartments.STAY AWAY. Billionaire didn't even have the basics... mustard , cheddar cheese, ac strong enough to cool the room in muggy rainy season, no top sheet on beds, sheets with no stains, dead bolt that lock on room door, a in room safe that works, the beach is blocked off by a concrete wall, the beach is full of seaweed not a clear spot to even walk. The pool tiles around & in the pool is full of mold. There is no open restaurant on the resort, items listed on the menu not available. The kitchen was closed so all food was prepared at loin in the sun, which arrived lukewarm. No meantion of this was told before, during or after booking or while I checked in ..... they have a long way to go before they reach billionaire status... they might have $5 on it!
Food 6/10 (had mediocre oversalted burger plus some drinks). Service 7/10 (they overcharged us for one drink but all else was good). Location 8/10 (nice views to The ocean and good chill music)
