Spent 21 days at this aryuvedic hospital. As lots of people have said this is not a wellness retreat so don't expect spa like facilities etc but the care and focus is on your health. Accomodation is basic but clean. We were in a majestic room which was spacious and air-conditioned. There varying sized rooms for every budget. On site there is a small library, a Ayurvedic pharmacy, small garden and there are two canteens. These are appropriately named and will only serve vegetarian food. Unfortunately I was put onto a strict diet but my wife who is also a non-vegetarian and a foodie was very happy with the food at the canteen. The aryuvedic doctors do an initial screening/consultation before pre-scribing treatments and any aryuvedic drugs. These are reviewed daily as they come round to check and discuss on progress. Just to emphasise, this a complementary treatment to allopathic medicine and not just a replacement. I have Crohn's colitis so it was never going to be a magical fix in 21 days but the treatment is ongoing and we will have online consultations with the aryuvedic doctor in a few months. Massage seems central to the treatments everyone receives. I am not a massage person so that was a shock. There was one massage a day for me for about an hour. For the first 7 days I think it was oil and then switched to medicated rice. There was also Dharah where warm oil is poured over your forehead in a back and forth action whilst you lie down. I always fell asleep during that for at least 45 mins of the hour. So who goes there? We found a lot of Indian ex-pats who were living let's just say overseas as they really did come from many parts of the world. There were also some local Indian people, a family from Italy and someone from Germany. So a mix but predominantly Indian. As I said before, this is not a spa. There are rough edges to it, but not that rough. The Arya Vaidya Sala have hospitals in a number of locations in India so you could choose to go elsewhere, but Kottakal is where it all started. The pictures below are from various locations in and around the hospital. I did go for walks into town and down to the river. It was Feb when we had gone and around 32 degrees and very humid.

#Munish_Budhlada from Australia reviews January2025- After seeing Rahul Gandhi Ji, the Presidents of India, and other prominent personalities receiving treatment here, I love the lush green surroundings and the pin-drop silence; no one seems to be in a rush in this AVS CAMPUS KOTTAKAL. Too many repeated patients here, some are continuing from past 20 years and many NRIs. I am in my mid-50s, decided to undergo treatment to maintain my weight and address other health issues. I spent two weeks in #January_2025 at the clinic and had the opportunity to meet many interesting personalities in the park situated within the AVS campus This was my first treatment in India, and I really appreciated the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff. All our requests were promptly met. The kitchen/ restaurant staff was also very attentive to our needs, and the menu catered to our cultural preferences. The doctors and therapists were highly professional, and the oils and medicines were of excellent quality. I can feel a positive result from the treatment. India has its own unique characteristics, but they are noticeable only if you nitpick. Thank you for the wonderful 14 days wellness program and warm welcome!
I had thee worst experience at AVS Kottakkal. I stayed there for 11 days. I kept questioning their lack of protocol and they looked like they were simply fumbling- like throwing darts in the dark and hoping for something to hit. Also very, very abominable are their hidden charges and fleecing of the patients. The food in the canteen was so-o disgusting. I felt ‘hangry’ and that was one of the reasons that I left. Please be aware before you decide to go to AVS.
The authentic name in Ayurveda in India is “Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala”. In business over 100 years this is the first and the last name for authentic Ayurvedic medicine/treatment. Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala also have representation outside India. Being in Dubai over 30 years I have used the service of Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala both in Satwa, Bur Dubai and Naif Road, Deira Dubai. There are seven Emirates in UnitedArab Emirates and Dubai is one among them. Am based in Dubai and thus used the service in Bur Dubai and Deira Dubai. Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala has representation in other Emirates too. I had freezing shoulder problem and I got treated it at Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala in Satwa and Deira. They do treatment as per the original tradition of the parent Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala located in Kottakkal, Malappuram District, Kerala. The doctors and staff members are also very friendly, cooperative and knowledgeable in the Ayurvedic tradition. Also I visited the parent Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala in Kottakkal for treatment during COVID 19 time. I lost weight and went to consult the doctor to regain my health. The doctor gave me the medicines (Ajashwagandha Lehyam, and few tablets) and within three months I started regaining weight and went back to my original physical condition. I am not against the modern medicines (Allopathy), Homeo medicines. But in my experience I found that Ayurvedic medicines are more suitable to me. I also understand that there is no side effects for Ayurvedic medicines. So ladies and gentlemen, if you are looking for Ayurvedic treatment, please do get it from the authentic place - Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala, Kottakkal, Malappuram District or any facility directly represented by them.
The treatments here are amazing. All the staff is really friendly and kind. Always taking care of you and making sure you are comfortable. Doctors are very experienced. Physiotherapy is also great, but they need more equipment and personal. Not enough for the big demand. One very very bad thing is the food. It is managed by an external caterer who doesn’t understand or care about the patients’ needs. It was a terrible experience trying to get healthy food being this a hospital! This should change. There should be healthy diet offered to patients.
